  1. how big do pictus cats get?
  2. the parents would probably eat them i would think, especially if they want to breed again
  3. kribs will often play nice if they have enough hiding spots and arent breeding  swords go with nearly everything and are pretty placid- i had some ages ago and i never saw them nipping angels or bettas so i would think they would be ok two female bettas would be betta than one (HAHHAHA too funny sharn!!)
  4. kttk- the thing about alot of rams is they come from asia where theyre mass produced, inbred and filled to the brim with parasites. because of inbreeding it has made them very very weak fish- alot less hardy than they should be and unless you get lucky and get some of the better stock you will often find them carking it for no reason. i know people who are very experienced keepers who just have them die off for no apparent reason, happy one hour dead the next just my two cents
  5. the BN, clown loaches and khulis will be equally effected- got a tank full of softies there  i would try for a half dose of very gentle meds and watch them for about an hour afterwards, try to have someone check on them hourly also just to make sure. also up the temp. if that doesnt stop if perhaps look into slowly upping it at a time where you can have someone there to check on the tank all the time (can you tell i get paranoid bout meds? lol)
  6. you may find the male betta will constantly harass the female betta causing her to become unwell, im not too sure. also if you have mixed sexs of the gouramis they may get angry when competing for 'bubble space'? id drop the red tailed shark, they like to eat other parts of fish that they can fit in their mouths. apparently they can also be nasty to other fish that have red on them- im not too sure, i have one myself but hes in a tank where he cant boss anyone around and he seems very peaceful but ive heard horror stories of guppies and neons becoming snacks depending on your angel fishes temperment it could work out (ive had angels with bettas before and all was ok) but if they become fin nippers you might have to part with the nippers or nipees. probably one of those trial and error things but have a backup plan (breeding net or tank) just incase it goes wrong. this is just my opinion though, you seem good on stocking levels, perhaps even understocked which is good
  7. if you take the babies away be prepared to be tough! the parents will often go looking for their babies and you just feel so bad watching them search for their family, dont put them back in though  i would put them in their own tank to grow out so you can make sure they are getting adequite amounts of food so they continue to grow well. good luck
  8. your not caper- i dont want bubba fish either
  9. commons can hit 20" or so easily
  10. also definatly look into dropsy, that often causes swelling but the most tell tale sign is scales sticking out- sort of like a pinecone  good luck with your new tank and im happy you found us- LFS dont have the most squeaky clean reputation when it comes to good advice :-?
  11. tried two nets? i had to use four nets and two people to get my rummies out of one of my tanks  what does his scales look like? could be dropsy? they often get bloated and cant swim properly.
  12. yeah, try get him onto prepared foods if you can and if he isnt already. that helps a bit for him to not see fish as food
  13. there is no such thing as too many choices, its called not having enough tanks to put the lot in
  14. bye bye tiger barbs and probably the SD (once your clown gets to around 40-50cm). theyve got some massive mouths, my friend has seen a full grown eating 11 inch goldies for brekky! YUMMY lol

    Platys

i was always lead to beleive driftwood didnt really make a drastic difference but leaked slowly over time?
  16. angels are cichlids the thing about cichlids is they can be agressive and they can be territorial, it ranges from species to species though. angels can be ok, some are nasty and some are placid as except for breeding. all breeding cichlids practise parental care and thats when their nasty nature can come out  it depends what type of cichlids you want to keep. angels are generally ok for fish that dont have long fins. like all fish if it can fit in their mouth theyll eat it, and it very often happens with them and neons. a few of the other commonly kept cichlids are rams, discus, kribensis etc. im not sure of any sites that could give you some pics of different cichlids but it would be worth doing some research, you want fish that are commonly placid if theyre to be kept in a community situation. good luck choosing your new fishies

    guppy problem

perhaps a broad spectrum antibiotic like furan might be worth a shot. no need to remove bristles for that either (i used furan at a double dose as adivsed by a cat person on my pleco way back)
  18. straight into a planted? 8cm+ IMO, young ones are alot of work to raise. also youll wana up your water changes to around 2-3 times a week of 30%, discus love clean water (im doing 50% daily on my discus tank which is small compared to the breeders lol). the more water changes you do the better they will grow. also up your temp to around 28-30C for your discus. 5.9 is pretty low, i would definatly add some shell grit in there. a ph of 6.5-7 is good for general keeping. you want to make sure your kh is high enough, over 3 degrees should keep things relatively stable. discus are pretty hardy fish as long as the water is stable and clean. have fun deciding what colours to pick
  19. clowns eat every moving thing thats meat that they can fit in their beautiful mouths  and they do it at night time too just to be ultra sneaky

is it possible they are weak genetically? not sure if fish can get things like liver and heart failure if theyre weak genetically but its possible, they might still look nice but might have some faults inside somewhere. whatever it is has to be very fast moving, perhaps a post mortem and some checks done for bacteria or something? these fish in question dont look emaciated before dying or anything do they? are they just swimming around perfectly fine and looking good and then die? there isnt any chance of poisining?
  22. what exactly are you using it for? all the fish have different requirements and it depends how scientific you want to be on your recipies as to what you put in. some of the recipies out there could be used to feed humans theyre so complete  my plain oscar recipe doesnt have an exact, its just whatever looks right. the last batch had beefheart lots of shelled peas lots of shrimp pellets good amount of garlic spinach (i think, it was ages ago) and thats all i remember  there is alot of stuff you can put in, but be careful with livers, they will often make your mixture very runny even with geletine (from experience lol)

    omg i did it

well theyre *cough* dorks *cough*, im pretty sure the only people that dont like dragons are the ones who are afraid of them! theyre such cool animals, if i was flatting id love someone to own a dragon! thats really stink though, i hope you can find a place!
  24. i could be totally off the mark but you want the water to have a fair amount of calcium in there cause thats what keeps the shells good. i beleive coral or crushed coral is often used in african tanks to keep the ph and kh up so would assume that would do a good job
  25. blue- how do your two royals get on? ive always read they can be quite pushy fish to other royals or bottom feeders
