  1. Take a look at the Diseases section of the site; this is treatable, and your LFS will have the treatment in stock. The other part seems to be cranking up the temp in the tank to around 29. Do you have a quarantine or hospital tank?

    Cat biscuits

I wll try it out, Jude, and let you know...(I can feel another "help, help" post rising up within me...)
  3. Hmmm...disruptive intensions...you sound like my kind of guys!
  4. The unidentified fish in the tank turned out to be a harlequin rasbora.
  5. My dream would be to build a huge fishtank wall into a new 7 bedroomed house; and also to have servants to look after the children and servants to look after the fish...
  6. Welcome, Bigstats. We all start as newbies, I am one myself. This an interesting site, in that the more you dig the more you find. There are a lot of helpful and knowledgeable people here to share knowledge with us, (especially if we ask one question at a time, and try to find the answer on Google first...)
  7. Two of our platies are looking a little swollen and gravid so, given the fact that our fishies are part of our family, we will be grandparents for the first time, sometime soon. It would be cigars all round, but lots of little fishies is going to mean...another tank What a shame!!! We should transfer them from the community tank into the little tank, and get some more plant material from LFS I guess...I am quite excited, but a little nervous also.
  8. Hi and welcome. I am finding that the more you dig on this site, the more really useful stuff you find. Hope you find the same. As well as that of course, there are some really nice people here as well...
  9. Hey Keri, welcome, it's good to see another Napier person here. Next HBAS meeting is Feb 06, perhaps we'll see each other there.
  10. Name: Bruce Age: Born on Christmas Day, 1952... go figure! Married To: Melinda Pets: one kitten, one rabbit, seven fishies Other pets: five (5) children - four boys (one "special needs") and one little girl (Daddy's pride and joy) About my job: Yesterday I took my client to The Warehouse (accessing the community), bought myself a pair of boardshorts and a hawaian shirt there, went home for lunch, and in the afternoon walked with my client right around the Ahuriri estuary (health, fitness, lifetsyle goals) and I got paid for it. I really love my job! Other hobbies: My computer. If I am not at work or watching my fishies swim or reading stories to/playing with my kids then I am either online...or I am asleep.
  11. New tank size is 60 cm long, 34 cm wide and 37 cm deep. Light-Glo canopy running Sun Glo and Aqua Glo fluorescents, and a Fluval tronic heater and and Aqua Clear power filter (waterfall type). We run the tank at 24 celsius.
  12. Deco City Pets is my LFS that are so helpful and friendly, when I asked them for contact info for a club, guess which one they recommended? Guess I'll be at the next meeting for HB Aquarium Society!!!
  13. Hi guys, I am Bruce from Napier. I got into this by accident when my wife bought an existing 10 litre tank setup, complete with fish. Within 24 hours, the neon tetra expired, so we replaced it with a zebra. A couple of days later that expired as well so we went back to the LFS and asked for help/info...the advice was to "strip the tank and clean EVERYTHING and refill with fresh water and use this Cycle and some of this salt"...we did this and all the fish survived...added another zebra, that thrived...did a partial water change, still looking good...went crazy and got a 72 litre tank with all the trimmings (starting to sound familiar?) and after allowing time for things to settle down in the new tank, swapped the fish over and bought two new platties. (Kept the old tank as well, of course...destined to become breeding tank further down the track) The fishies in our care at the moment are a suckerfish, a clown loach, three platties (two blue, one orange), one zebra, and one (blush) unidentified which is orange in front half, black in rear half, a little shorter than the zebra and swims with the zebra generally. We love our new tank and our fish. I work with disabled adults and it is so soothing and relaxing to come home from a full-on shift and sit and watch our fish swim... And to round off, we really appreciate our local fish-shop for their helpful and enthusiastic advice. It's just a shame I can't tell you the name, as that would probably be against the rules. All the best for the New Year, guys!
