  1. I make mine in a food processor and it doesn't cause any issues, even in my under filtered tanks with just bubble filters and large fish I think the key is not overfeeding it and heaps of gelatine to keep it together. Also take it easy on it when you first make it as it can take a while for your fish to get used to it.
  2. Providing it is well bound together and you don't massively overfeed and have a few bottom feeders it is generally pretty good.
  3. TBH you are better off searching for water chemistry on here or even the internet rather than making people type out heaps of stuff you can find yourself with a little bit of effort.. I will help you out by linking you to a good place to start http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/c ... y_list.php Yellows in your tank might be ok short term but I would do at least 6 and thin it out to 1m and however many females you end up with, the suggestion of smaller numbers is not very good there will be less fish to spread the aggression out on and unless you say started out with 1m and 3 females it isn't very likely to work long term and the fish will suffer. Kribs would go ok with the yellows but again you are limited by your tank size I would be tempted to reconsider until you can buy a big enough tank to house the fish you want, and maybe setup a really nice yellow/peacock/dem tank that would make a great display..

    Air Pumps

Try this viewtopic.php?f=28&t=46954&p=509985&hilit=air+compressor#p509985 There is plenty of threads on here about it but at a guess 20-30LPM would take care of it..
  5. Are you selling the bog of guppies? I do find it interesting that the price is so high for something that it looks like has almost no value as noone is using it? I listed some things but had noone even look at them..
  6. You import fish? I haven't seen blue angels in NZ but they are nice looking fish!
  7. The courier people put 2 nth to south tickets instead of 2 nth to nth
  8. A 90L tank is on the small side for pretty much any african cichlid long term You might get away with kribs or jewels or maybe yellows maybe some peacocks when younger but they will outgrow it in time..
  9. I would go for the ceramic ones.. I have used them for years in all of my filters and found them fine, eheim might have some stupid amount of surface area which is all well and good but I would like to know how much the standard cheap ones can hold and also how much my tank actually needs.. I mean it is all good having 2-3000sqm of surface area in your filter but how much do you need and how many bacteria do you need.. I would suggest it isn't actually that vital as I have had plenty of big tanks running with stuff all noodles on them and mainly sponges/filter wool and things like that in the filters.
  10. It is the kelvin rating or colour of the tube.. I don't know too much about it so cannot really explain it google or forum search would probably find all the info you desire on the subject. Most of the ones you can buy are like a cool or warm white which are like 2700 or 4200k or something random like that, but you want to choose ones that have 6500k written on them.
  11. People have had luck with 6500k energy saving bulbs apparently if you shop around you can find them..
  12. They get fat and square off around the front of their stomach..
  13. I had the same issue until I got in touch with the head animal inspector for NZ from the SPCA who rung the couriers for me and told them to stop being stupid as they had not issued any rulings on not shipping fish Then I got a polite call back saying they would take my fish again..
  14. Auckland to Bulls I use NZ couriers from this end with no problems, but don't recommend them because of issues I have heard from different branches around the country..
  15. It is a displaying type behaviour for breeding/fighting you should notice when they start breeding as the females will be holding or you will see the male/female going around in circles in a pit in the gravel.. Unfortunately ice blues are exceptionally aggressive so they will probably fight until they kill each other or die of old age Ok that is a bit of an over exaggeration the fighting may settle slightly after they have sorted out who is boss, but do watch the ice blues for aggression, I have seen males take over half a 6ft tank and not let a single fish into it..
  16. Looking good Those are gold head comps ymir..
  17. They are worth what someone is willing to pay for them Post up some pics if you can and then people can advise what they might be worth, I have no idea what strains of angels are desirable at the moment, you might even find someone who will trade you africans for angels, I actually wouldn't mind a pair of angels and have heaps of africans so if I was closer and liked the fish might have tried that..
  18. Congrats I have no experience with them personally but have heard they can eat while holding, all mouth brooding africans can some learn how to some don't.. I would strip, but if it is her first time it can take a while for them to learn to hold full term.
  19. I always thought that mollies and guppies could and would cross because they were the same family? Plenty of info on it on the net though although it is really hard to find creditable information, I have never tried and Tracytrout says she keeps them together with no problems so at best it is very unlikely to actually happen. http://www.fishlore.com/fishforum/breed ... aties.html Most mollies don't need salt although they do tend to do better with it, guppies won't mind a little salt in their tanks.

    Ram Breeding Log

That does look like a female to me rounded fins and no dorsal extensions.. If it helps here is the long finned gold male I used to have.. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f183/ ... 0x1200.jpg
  21. From memory guppies/mollies cross breed readily don't they? Same with swords/platties.. Wont be an issue if breeding isn't your game but might be something to consider (if it is indeed true).
  22. I use canister filters on most of my big african tanks, to be honest them and sumps do the best jobs at really cleaning up the water. I also use air powered box filters on tanks upto 150-200L I usually use a few of them in each tank and have them bubbling so hard it is like the water is boiling, it works well but the tanks are never as clean as with canisters. I have found a really good way to restart the canisters is to just fill them up most of the way with the inlet hose, then hook it all up plug it in open the taps and then lean the filter over towards the outlet side. This will make sure the impeller is under the water and starts pumping water, you can give it a few taps while it is leant over and then start leaning it over and tapping it as you go to get the air out. As long as you take it slow and let all the air get pumped out in stages you can get it going within a few minutes I also only clean out my filters every 3-6months so while the 7-8 of them I am running are a few I only usually end up cleaning 1 a month.
  23. You still have to be careful what you stick in a tank that small with a heater.. I would go for some of the smaller danio/rasbora species that have come in lately, or maybe male guppies/platties. If you put male and female live bearers in there they will soon overrun a tank like that, of course you could add some and then add something to control the population too, but again you run out of room in a tank that small.
  24. I wouldn't do guppies in pure "cold water" they don't really handle temperatures below 18C really well. There is a debate and plenty of people who claim "cold water guppies" when they sell them that is based on the fact they were living in unheated water in a warm petshop but there really isn't such a thing. I would go for something like leopard fish as they go well down to almost 0C..
