  1. lol there was a second bird? I was not happy about getting 1.. Oh yeah I think I did see one of them Jen
  2. lol we were there and saw Phoenix Scott and Tania, my wife even brought a stupid bird lol But as for what Jen is looking for I have no idea what half the birds were
  3. I once purchased a product like that made my seachem I think it was a rift lake buffer, I added it for a while but noticed no difference to the fish so stopped.. Pretty easy to make your own buffers or just not do anything unless your fish are unhappy, sometimes mucking around with these things causes more harm than good.
  4. I don't think that clown loaches breed and guard their eggs from memory they are egg scatters.. Also I don't think they are regarded as adults or mature until they reach 20-25cm+ how big are yours?
  5. That sounds really weird.. Have you tried vacuuming it out and doing massive water changes? You aren't overfeeding are you? Although I don't think much would go uneaten in your tank..
  6. Yep 6fter with a heap of haps in it would be wicked 620T is too small for all male tank sorry.. You might get away with a single colony of peacocks and some yellows..
  7. Hi and welcome Feel free to come along to the next central fish keepers meeting we have a few from Wanganui already involved..
  8. It seems cruel but it is quick and painless, I know that I would rather be smacked on the head and killed than be stuck in a room and slowly poisoned (as the fish would be by chlorine in your water) and/or slowly shut down due to the cold..
  9. You can fit as many as you want to in there. Will they get along depends on what they are as smidey has suggested.. All male peacock or hap tanks can be one of the hardest tanks to get balanced and should really be a min of 4ft long Firenz posted some very nice pics of his recently..
  10. Hard to know really, I know I would go there if it had a big tank but that is just because I am into fish It would certainly differentiate your shop from the other shops, and may even be good for identification of your shop, ie someone says oh I had a good feed at the cafe at "blah blah" the other day I can't remember its name but it had a huge fish tank.. Either way it is cool and a good chance to own your dream tank and write it off against the business lol
  11. If it is suffering and beyond help I bounce it on the concrete brutal but quick and painless.
  12. lol famous last words Giraffes like all nimbos are predators mine haven't been so far and have just left fish alone but I wouldn't put it past them to eat anything they can get and I certainly wouldn't bank on them not eating a bunch of 2-3cm fish when they are 10cm long..
  13. lol he would love them and probably eat juvvies, of course that would be depending on their size etc.. I would start with a smaller giraffe and let them grow up together..
  14. I usually say a large 3ft min for dems you could always give it a go but I don't think the chances of it working long term in that tank are very good. I never say never though as someone will always proove me wrong
  15. Big enough in L but I would say not big enough in footprint as those tanks are pretty tall not long.. Would be ok to start some babies off in though but when they get bigger I would say no. I have heard of people cramming like 30 into a 2ft tank before and it working but only with sheer numbers and I wouldn't recommend it.
  16. Gutted Harem spawning male africans are very hard on the females so you really do need multiple females for every male..
  17. You can try dropping the tonic directly over the affected area just catch the fish and hold them in the net over a bucket or something like that and drop it on, let a good amount soak in and stick the fish back into the tank. I haven't had much success with putting it in the water and have found it works better if you apply it directly and do it daily.
  18. I would say the filtration is fine, I don't think it is a case of needing more probably a case of more would be better but it would still be fine I have run heavily stocked african tanks on smaller filters and had no issues. Yes there is a little bit of muck floating around the bottom and if I overfeed or skip a week of water changes then the water gets a little brown but I have never had any issues with tanks crashing. Some of my big tanks even have air powered box filters on them with no issues.. Yeah I agree with david if you want a nice community tank because you have no room for extra tanks then why not just mix it up with a heap of nice males and leave it at that? You wont have room to setup tanks for growing fry out in anyway. Not alot of difference in size between giraffes/fusco's/livingstonii/polystigs, I have heard that the giraffes are a little less predatory (and they seem to have a smaller mouth than the liviingstonii fuscos and polystigs). I can't back that up as I only keep giraffes and they are not predatory enough I still have mongroul fry survive in my mixed tank. I have also had no aggression troubles at all with my giraffes I would almost classify them in the same aggression class as the electra and dolphins. Do you breed in your mixed tank?
  19. Nibmos are very likely to cross breed and will grow quite big a 450L tank is probably alright but they will make it look small ina few years. The empresses may also try and cross with the nimbos but that is less likely. Usual story if you want to breed pure fish then breed in a species tank. My giraffes don't successfully breed in the display tank as all the other fish nip in and eat all their eggs before the female can even take them up. I would also say the peacocks would never breed pure as they will have big haps being the boss of the tank so would struggle to fight for enough turf to get into and lay their eggs.
  20. Darker is better for fish colour as Caryl has pointed out, but alot of african tanks have white sand as that is what colour coral or argonite is..
  21. I must have missed this tank But very nice and loving those comps.. What is wrong with the current stocking list? And what tropheus do you have in there...
  22. This thread may help you.. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=44876&hilit=heating
  23. I use a 70LPH air compressor type fish tank pump and I am doing around 30 airstones with it at the moment with air still to burn It is great but very noisy so I should probably plumb it in outside the fishroom but then it gives off so much heat I Figured it was better to have it in there.. As for where to buy one, maybe contact kiwiplymouth on here I believe he mentioned he may have one spare a while ago.. Check your local shop or even trademe.
  24. How big is the tank? Plenty of dwarfs or even shell dwellers around now
