Another update, sorry to bother, just hoping for some input. Cleaned out the canister filter, to find it full of a strange white/cream substance, in flakes everywhere and covering the black seals, its the same film that has taken over the black suction caps in the tank. The only thing I have added to the water is stress coat only because I dont have anything to remove chlorine and had some of this stuff, apparently it removes the rubbish from the tap water. Mind you I used it in the old tank and never had this problem. I also removed all the air stones in there and hope that the filter will take care of this horrible looking water shortly! Any ideas? Also I think the tank must have cycled as Amm and Nitrites very low and Nitrates at about 5 since day two, I did use gravel from the old tank too and the same ornaments/plants + 30 odd litres of the old tank water and ran the old filter for a day. Worked a treat if its cycled in less than a week!

Update on the new tank saga, Just went home and found all the fish swimming around happily, some scatter tho when I move around the tank so presume its normal. The water is looking a little green now! There is also a white film on all the suction cups holding parts in place and on a few other things, I think it might be the new fish food I am feeding them (frenchies recipe, fish love it, however tank started to get really dirty since feeding it) So I will pull the canister filter apart when I get home and make sure its not clogged with something foul and that the media is setup the way it should be, hopefully will clear the water up!

Can any of you guru's suggest some good dither fish for my malawi setup?

Ever since putting the fish in the new 250L they Elec Yellows have become VERY shy, they will only really come out when the light goes off and all the fish seem to hide from the light, its quite minimal at the moment as I'm still building the roof for the cabinet and light housing so just has my old light on there at the mo, however they seem to hate it, even when eating, have become really "scatty". I make note that it was the light they've always had on the previous tank Also the tank takes about 48 hours to get rid of the murkiness now after a water change and the hosing on the intake pipe for the canister filter is quite "soiled" and has a brownish film inside it, I do make note again this tank has only been running for about a week. I understand I have to let this tank cycle but im worried it could be filthy in the canister already and wonder if its why the water stays filthy for so long, is it worth cleaning? I have been testing the water every 12 hours, and Nitrates have been steady at around 5ppm, Nitrites between 0 and 0.25ppm Ammonia between 0 and 0.25ppm, and the pH steady at 8. What the heck is goin on!

Cool! Im not going to get the pair, only the male, cos quite pretty although this may still cause problems? Other fishies I will prob take! if worst comes to worst I can seperate them, seeing as I have MTS already :lol: Cheers Vamp, you are an angel 8)

OK, I currently have -2 Elec Yellow - 1 Male 1 Female -6 Kenyi - approx 4cm can see a few males colour coming out I want to bid on - PSEUDOTROPHEUS ZEBRA MALE - Convict Cichlids- Male and Female - Malawi Blue Faced Peacock - Male Will these guys be ok with my current family of fishies? Tank is 250L, Aqua One 1200 filter.

About this recipe, Can anybody elaborate a little more, as i'm worried about giving the fishies the wrong things! Whole Shrimp - Do I blend them shells, head and all? Spirulina Powder - I could only get spirulina powder mixed with ALFALFA AND BARLEY GRASS. Product is called "spirulina power" by red seal Only multivitamin I could find is Multi Vitamin & Mineral for kids by Healtheries, and its in tablet form, would this be ok, and in regards to measuring this and the Spirulina in ml's would I be safe to say a crushed teaspoon of it is 5ml? Heya mate, I have read in quite a few places that doing a water cycle and dropping the level of water can encourage it. Also I didnt mean increase the pH, more so to have it at optimal which some people reckon is around 8.2, I must have been thinking of my tank at the time lol :lol: I forget the hardness. In regards to stripping females I have also read and been told that stripping a female can increase her chances if young when done, to spit the eggs before ready, the young apparently have a higher chance of also "loosing the eggs" early. I dunno how much of it is true, because I have only read most of this, although the websites seem quite credible. Ditto man, however the shops are selling them (where I can find them at least!) for like 25-25 bucks and they dont look very healthy and have come from a mother that was forced to spit the fry (not good)

No idea, I'm thinking of surprising my little sister and setting it up in her room when shes not at home. My apartment in town is getting too cramped, want to move out soon so i can setup a fish room! And get into saltwater too!

I want to breed my pair, I'm quite sure im going to need more than one female tho! Other than that, any other ways to encourage them to "do it" apart from increasing pH, and dropping water level?
