im surprised the cichlids dont have a go at him and defend the eggs
  4. Fish are fine now, put a new tankmate in for them, they love him. But the only only thing I put in the tank that i'm pretty sure buggered it up is that recipe for fish food. 1KG Shrimp, heads, legs, eggs and all 1KG Green Peas Spiruline Powder Kids multivit Gelatine Never again Damn tank went green and horrible after feeding just a little bit. Thats all I can think of. Hopefully got rid of most of it in the huge clean, so will be able to tell in a couple of days if it clears up or not.

cool will have to hunt around, alot of them are ugly mofo's but ill steer clear of plecos if they are lazy.
  6. Newest update on the tank saga... Got up yest morn to find water even dirtier and greener than ever! I came to the conclusion it was the new fish food I had used! Fish seemed to love it, but man the waste it left behind is horrible! So did an 80% water change and took out ALL the gravel and cleaned it, scrubbed everything down. I dont care if I disrupted the cycle, its better than putting up with that mess and ever dirty water. The sludge everywhere MUST have been that gelatine!!! Frozen or not, its bound to do that! So now im waiting, (25 hours so far) for the tank to settle. The quality of water has improved considerably however its far beyond crystal, still little tiny bits of goodness knows what floating through the water. Heres hoping it clears up like the old tank. Looking forward to crystal clear!!!

Obv these are ok with cichlids from what I have read...is it worth getting one, and would it be a good idea to wait until the tank fully cycles before getting one, would it put much strain on the bio filter while its doing its thing?
  8. I just got a DVD on Cichlids and the same one is for sale on trade me again, along with books.

    Help :(

yeah its always been sweet, well for the last week it has, but since I moved it off the floor, and placed some airstones around the intake its been filling up with little bubbles at the bottom of the canister. Like I was saying I cant see any bubbles from the airstones getting sucked up but was wondering if it was the smaller bubbles unviewable to the naked eye that were accumulating in the bottom then getting expelled. All the seals and tubing are tighter than a .... .... . So yeah I can only think its all the air in the water. Its an Aqua One CF1200. Also in regard to that filter wool I think I should get rid of it as im sure its hampering the output. Will take apart later and take some photos of it and the setup of the media and invite the gurus criticism. N

    Help :(

Ok whilst this topic is still going off like a firecracker, may I ask somebody, firstly, (Aqua one 1200) Is the water coming into my canister through the holes in each media cartridge, sealed by o rings? Because i can see bits of crap floating around down the bottom, I assume the water then gets sucked back up through the media and back out. Also why are bits off poop and whatnot creeping up the sides of the media instead of through it? Its as tight a fit as you can get it. Also I keep getting air in the canister, I can remove it be slowly rocking it, and keeping the outlet out of the water, however it just gets more air pockets in it! Could this be because the intake is near airstones? I cannot see any bubbles going up however im guessing the air particles in the water invisible to the naked eye are building up inside the canister. Am i right, and apart from the odd noise, is air in the canister something I should be worried about?
