  1. I have kept mine around 25-27 degrees, They are pretty tough and can live well in a range of temps. I just find at the higher temps it ups their metabolism so they are more active, grow faster, breed more readily etc, just make sure they have enough oxygen/waterflow and they are sweet
  2. Hey NoToRiOuS, Nice lookin fish, haven't seen any around for ages. Where did you get it from if you dont mind me askin. Found these guys do really well with a lot of water flow through the tank. Good luck with him hes a stunner
  3. Jansens silverdale always has quite a good range of wood its really just luck as to whether it will sink or not. generally if a piece is really heavy for its size it will sink or sink faster than lighter pieces, some lighter pieces take months and months. The only true way of getting wood that will definately sink is to buy the heavy (and pricey) bogwood or to buy the presoaked wood. If you are intending for it to be for plecos to chew on, the lighter softer stuff is better as they can eat it easier. This is just what i have found anyway, hope it is of some help Shane
  4. Yeah sounds like that fullas just a grump, alot of my plecs do that, i think they are just defending their dinner
  5. Just got back fron aussie a few hours ago and saw a bunch of babies in a shop in brisbane, cute lil buggers
  6. Awesome fish Chin, look even better in real life! Thanks for letting us come and have a look at your fish last night, the two turks we got off you have settled in really well, Shane

  8. nice redspot dude. like those medusas you got there too rcon, I know you've got some more pics, whack em up.....show us ya big guns! haha
  9. Do you think it was a plec or something else that dwells at the bottom? if plec could possibly be a butterfly plec?

    Have you seen any

Hey dude i think i saw a hoplogenys labeled on a tank at jansens glenfield but diddnt look to see if it was in the tank
  12. I used to have clown synos which were cool and they can get to around the 25-30cm mark, but i havent really seen any nice ones available latley, hope that helps
  13. Go for it dude, just check ya water quality after its bin in there for a while before adding any fish. Once the plecs are in they will eat the rotting stuff first, it will stain the water for a long time though depending on how big the wood is but i think the tea colour looks cool. thats my opinion anyway, goodluck with it
  14. Hey all, I had a lemon spot plec die the other week and was hoping somebody on here could help figure out what was wrong incase it is contageous. It became really swollen like dropsy, but had little clear blisters over its skin and you could see blood vessels close to the skin in patches over the body. From when i first noticed it getting bigger to death was about three days. Water quality was fine. It was in a 200L tank with 8 other catfish 6 kuhlis and 2 elephant nose.temp was 26*C If any body can throw any comments/advice my way it would be greatly appreciated
  15. Woah the guy that sold you those must have bin an idiot well done
  16. Haha yeah mate i think i must have bin the guy you got your bristlenose from, hope they are goin well. BlueandKim, yeah the L128 is being called a blue plec at the mo, have also herd it being called a phantom plec. Beautiful fish, I have seen them going for around $170. Just the same as the lemon spot with a different base colour, awesome fish. Kyle, fair enough mate, i just dont really see people going out and buying that sort of thing unless the are sure about what they are doing or trying to achieve. Cheers, Shane
  17. Hey guys just thought I would list some of my catfish for ya, -2 gold nuggets -3 lemon spot greens -1 L128 -2 clown plecs -2 queen arabesques -2 mangos -2 snowballs -4 goldline royals -15ish royal whiptail cats -a couple of GBA's and a few more.... Kyle, try not to sound so negative about the panaque on trademe. If no one trys to breed it, it would be a bit of a waste, dont ya reckon?
  18. So what your saying is you can import catfish from the amazon?.......... Oh and i have bred GBA's and Sturisoma festivum, hoping to try my snowballs soon.

    Hey Hey Hey!!!!

Hi all, im pretty new to this and i have no idea what I'm doing but anyway.... I've been keeping fish for about 5 years now and have half a dozen tanks at the moment, biggest being a 6 by 2 by 3 foot tank. I'm really into my plecs and its pretty much all that i keep. I have one or two spread through my tanks also a few discus oh and a silver arowana thats about 50cm. I have bred a couple of plecs and would like to breed a few more species. This site has been very interesting for me as people share their experiences and also the species which they have in their collections. Great site guys, thanks very much Shane
  21. Hey guys. I'd just like to say i think that it is S.panamense. Nice fish by the way. Shane.
