  1. Ahh, would you break an unfair law?, Or what about ignorantly breaking one? - it's no excuse.
  2. I think the problem is we have a parliment who will make laws forever, they keep churning them out. Its funny that our system assumes that there will never be enough laws. If it aint broke - legislate. In my home town (Havelock North) you can get a $25000 fine and a criminal record for having a beer on you in the liquor zone. You can't get off the criminal record either(the fine is optionable). Imagine having a record for life because you had a beer when you were 17.
  3. Lol nah I realise with dealing with the police especially while drunk its best to be nice and polite, its still good to know the law though. If they lock you up illegally you cant really do anything about it - whos gonna believe you? With more legislative action such as taking someones fish, knowing the law is quite important. Do they need a warrant to come get your fish? Do they bring the police with them? Its quite an odd situation I imagine. What happens if youve moved the fish? And dont worry, I'm not in the classroom too often!!

Do you guys put anything over the intake of your lagunas? I got a nice one off steve 2142gph and was surprised it doesnt come with an intake guard, I have heard they stop amphipods ect from getting back to the display...

Just keep swapping until you get a good one.
  6. So if you say that you caught it fishing in the kermadecs, how can they still take it? If they took my lionfish man would I make a fuss!!! I got a fine for drinking in public once(when underage) and I went to court to stick it to them! I made sure I got all my alcohol back too. Can anyone name the act this is all under? I like reading the legislation, as you can find interesting things out - for example urinating in public is acceptable if you "didnt expect to be seen". Or it's ok to be found peering into a residential house (a peeping tom) as long as it is 1 hour after sun up or before sun down.
  7. Not really in the centre colsole... I took the photo out , I dont like disapprooving stares lol. But you have to admit the above photo is cool. 8) Anyway back on track a homebrew barrel would be perfect for water carrying. I picked my ones up for about $10, but they are $20 new, they hold 25L
  8. I'd be happy with a Remuara Blonde
  9. Doesnt venemous mean it is illegal to import? I dont see how they can proove you imported something, if it is found here, even if it is not very well documented. They have to give you the benefit of the doubt, especially with lack of evidence.
  10. Hah, I had to fit my 300 L tank in my flatmates ford laser. That was very hard. His boot is one of those ones that opens from half way up, made things very difficult. I got cut numerous times. Took us about 40 mins to pack it all in. Why dont you guys just chuck a big tank on the roof? Run a pump to fill it? Or wouldn't that fit the reefer image? This is the beast I drive round in, $200, and $20 "touch up paint", got to dunedin and back, made it up the steepest street in the world both in forwards and reverse gears. Has a cellotape window as someone smashed it with a bottle. Its up for sale,!!! Perfect for water transport as it leaks anyway, so you wont notice the difference. Perfect for those who like attention. I didnt pick the theme, terrorists are all the rage - I hate not being original.

    Seio Pumps

If it were me (based on what others have said), I would keep returning them until I got a good one. They have an apauling return rate, but who cares? The consumer gaurentee act is a powerful thing!
  12. Maybe you guys should team up and go about creating a supply of aquacultured lionfish. When they say its on the banned list, what exactly do they mean? What are the rules about being banned? Is it the same thing as kio carp- Where if you take it outa the water you cant put it back? I would imagine that no species endemic to New Zealand waters can be classified as such, otherwise the policy could actually destroy something that is supposed to be here in the first place - ie the lionfish.
  13. Haha, I finally found the site I stumbled upon one day with really good diy rock. Took me ages to find it again. the thread with all the info and pics.... http://www.captivereefing.com/viewtopic.php?p=8003 This stuff is very cool!!!, 8)
  14. Ohh ok so turnover is what I was thinking about. 20x turnover for mine nearly. Would this make the surface visably rough? I rekon that looks cool. Hey neople, I have found a good thread on RC with the oystercrete and it is very porous apparently. Water will go through it, if you make a cup out of it and fill it,- the water will drain. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthrea ... genumber=1 Also if you have foam rubber, you can make a mould of a coral skeleton, and then fill it with mix and make corals into the rock. Looks real cool.
  15. Does that include internal things like closed loops? I was thinking just return, but I spose internal would count aswell. I just had a rough geuss at mine and it looks to be about 20x due to the return, depends on how high my return pipe has to be. Is it the more flow the merrier?
  16. So wasp, how did you get banned!!! Did you see that ironman guy has 40x flow? Isnt that insane?
  17. Thats ridiculous, are they protected? Im geussing they are. What's the deal, if someone new wants to go start another business selling them, does the government have to let them too? Or would the government openly admit to creating a monopoly?
  18. If it didnt use advertising I would consider it free. Using the site gains them money from the ads - the site probably wouldnt be there otherwise. I think that they'd be rolling in money, any site that constantly has around 1500+ people online must be doing well -especially given the money they spend. Definately enough to pay for a search that functions properly. Cheers layton, I knew you could search with google, but I didn't know how.
  19. Im just geussing here but leds wont loose their wavelength("go off") after a while like normal lights will they? Hmmm I might get a whole lot of them, will they damage eyes? Wouldnt want to blind my future octo.
  20. man thats cool !!! I was also thinking of rigging up some uv leds like the torch you linked too, you could have them on in addition to normal lighting. Have those crazy colours all day!!. Anyone know where you can buy the leds on their own?

Are the special reptile bulbs a ripoff too? I paid 50 bucks for one
  22. I also read that when they crush the oystershells they just chuck the whole oyster in, insides and all. I think the phosphate comes from the rest of it. The guy who made his oystercrete did some tests and said PO4's were nill. He said that when you wash the shells you can see all the crap coming off. I think when I get round to making them I'll do some with and some without. Cover my bases.
  23. Oh yeah I was thinking of "livening" up my rock in the sea, but I'm a bit worried about loosing it or it being washed away or something. I remember someone suggesting putting it in a washing basket - but you would probably want a bouy, and from past experience thats the best way for it to get disturbed by crayfish theifs.
  24. Well I'm probably not going to run any "real" lighting. Just leds, I was thinking of white ones, dunno about the wavelength of those or if it could grow algae? well I dont think my weipro can be described as big  haha. Damn, I just really like the oystershell look. I do remember a thread about the phosphate thing and I think someone ran a test, ill see if I can find it - if rc isnt overloaded - man they are useless!
  25. Not on the topic of cuttlefish, but a very cool/weird video of "magic sand". http://www.spikedhumor.com/articles/533 ... _Sand.html Perhaps another option for a faux sand bed? haha Salt water might screw it up but who knows.
