What's the deal, if someone new wants to go start another business selling them, does the government have to let them too? Or would the government openly admit to creating a monopoly?

My guess is it's a beaurocratic coincidence.

Somebody decided they should be protected but permit issued for existing stock perhaps. Turns out only one guy qualifies for a breeders exporters licence, and bingo - charge what you like.

As stated they are ugly suckers, it will be so some millionaire can impress his guests by quoting what he paid for it.

That price is meaningless. The only way for it to be interesting at all is to have number of transactions listed as well. We can all charge a million dollars for whatever we want, but it doesn't do much good if no one buys it. Basic principle of economics: there are two sides to every market.

Until we see sales for the $100000 fish, both statements carry the same weight. :roll:
