check your goldfish ponds

Featured Replies

last night I was doing a water change on the swimming pool and planned to fill it today - the pool has had goldfish in it growing out. It was about 50cm deep and unfortunately during the night I lost the lot, I can only put it down to cold as they are all on the bottom and look as though they just went to sleep. Looks like it wasnt deep enough for them to escape the cold.

I think it will have something to do with what you call a water-change.

Did you put some more water in, or did you just drain out a heap waiting to fill it later??

I half drained it, and hadnt added water to it, last night was bitterly cold. I let the dog out around midnight and it was similar to ice cream headache all over the body.

I would then say that the water you had left there was a concentration of the contaminants in the pond and that is what killed the fish and NOT the cold.

Goldfish can live under ice.

Sorry to hear that about yr goldfish..

When we clean our pond out, i use the pump to pump out the water and another hose to refill it at the same time.. havent lost any fish at all.. we r up the road in Horowhenua..

Shame to hear of your loss, I am with Alan here. water quality more than the cold would of killed them.

Speaking of cold, my oldies flew out for Christchurch today, I'd love to see the look on there faces. :o They had the heater out here last night as it was a little chilly.

Frenchy :D
