Caryl Posted August 14, 2006 Report Share Posted August 14, 2006 My electric yellow (Labidochromis caeruleus) keeps dropping fry but some of them aren't like the others. Is this common or is someone else getting in on the act? Sorry about the poor pic but the glass on this tank is badly scratched. See the back one is bright yellow, like the majority, but the front one seems to have stripes. The other fish in the tank are C borleyi, possibly A jacobfriebergi and this little brown striped fish.. I assume this fish is a female something but have not seen signs of her holding or tring to get out of anyone's way (or not eating). Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

malawi_man Posted August 24, 2006 Report Share Posted August 24, 2006 the brown striped fish is most likely an aulonocara jacobfreibergi, the common name for all aulonocara species is "peacock". All fish from lake malawi are mouthbrooders so the jacobfreibergi could have held the eggs and maybe bred with the yellow male? Is there any jacobfreibergi males in the tank? Yeah i agree its a peacock of sorts And just to be a stickler not all cichlids are mouthbrooders in Malawi only one isnt though Tilapia Rendalli How many Electric Yellows do you have in the tank?
