cookie extreme
love mussy's when they get older and LPS, SPS, leathers and everything else in your tank.
rossco
By mussy I presume you mean blastomussa thingys? Thats cool, can't grow them properly anyway. I thought at first that by mussy you meant mussel. He likes them already! And eats whitebait whole in one gulp. So much so that when we have fish and chips we have to order an extra person's share for him!
chimera
nice! and the best of both worlds, wait til he changes colour when he gets adult, you wont even recognise him by far one of my favourite fish
rossco
Thanks James. You will be one of the first on my list when I have to start chucking out my corals...!
reef
Nice fish, but they will wipe out you corals , especially in a small reef tank. better suited to a fish only or very large reef tank. Those LPS look very yummy.
wasp
Yes I have the very similar koran angel, pictured below. Was tiny when I got it and didn't bother anything but it's a lot bigger now & starting to just swim around & take bites at the corals, mainly the sps. Bit of a tragedy because it is a beautiful fish looks so good in the tank. Just going to watch and see how things go but I think eventually I may have to bite the bullet & pull it. puttputt
not hard to see whos going to win that battle - soft squishy clam vs stroppy angel. better give me your clam.....
wasp
Lucky you said Chimera I've been thinking it may be time to try a clam, perhaps I won't bother. Yes I guess I feed them mussel and they love it, so a nice clam mantle hanging out would be an obvious target. My regal has been good so far though, it's just the koran. I've been feeding it heaps to keep it full but it's growing fast as.
cookie extreme
seen my regal start to nip at the mantle of a new clam i've added mine done the same thing to a new gigas clam i added with the clam loosing most of its mantle. then suddenly he stopped nipping on it and has not bothered it since. i put it down to being a new addition to the tank and the fish was just checking it out. wasp
Wonder if the clam has a defense mechanism where it manufactures something distasteful if under persistent attack?
lduncan
Wonder if the clam has a defense mechanism where it manufactures something distasteful if under persistent attack? Dunno about manufacturing something distasteful, but this looks like a pretty effective defense mechanism: And a more graphic closeup:

skuzza
My emperor was fine for about 5 months then it turned into and evil bossy coral eating machine all in the space of a week.So after the loss of a great fish i got an regal angel which mowed down everything that was not sps.I have found over the last 11 years of fish and reef keeping that they are eye catching with a great personality for a while then they turn into w#*kers. You put one in your coral tank and you get what you deserve.Look on the bright side its only $100 a coral and about $140ish for a nice clam so just keep buying new ones they may stop one day. Drifty
I learnt my lesson after having my emperior eat most things in my tank, I wont put any angel in my tank again, unless I get a fish only one day that is.

reef
Yes most angels will pick, however in a large reef tank I think you have a better chance as there is so many corals and space that they won’t pick on one coral all the time. So far my Navarchus has been fine as he has not picked on much, however since putting him in my reef tank about 5 months ago he has grown quite a lot so I suspect he might have to come out as he might get more adventurous and take out a few clams and brains. Amazing how big he has grown, from about a 50cent size to almost 120mm in 12 months. Check out Mr Frog fish. Needs live food. Loves his Chromis meals. Problems Catching angels? put him in the tank and he will do the job for you with pleasure.
