evilknieval69
Would these be any good for a freshwater setup?? they are 150 Watts At only $50 i can get 16 lights and 16 transformers....just need them shipped then, BUT, because they are so cheap i will be prepared to pay for the shipping Rogan
fishboi
WOW what a great deal. u'll most likely have to change the bulbs to suit as most shop fitting light bulbs are have UV stop glass which takes away all the good stuff that we want for our tanks and only produce a 3000K but still what a bargain as long as u have a good knowledge on electrical wiring. good luck with the auction. evilknieval69
well i would only use two on one tank (at the most!!!) and MAYBE 1 on another tank... I would sell the rest off and im sure i would get my $$ back... I just cant realy do it right now as i need all my $$ for the fish and plants for the tank.... If anybody is keen to buy them, i would be keen to buy one, or two off them.... Thanks Rogan

mat692
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW MUCH THE PROPPER BULBS WOULD BE? I MIGHT GET THEM ROGAN AS I HAVE SOMEONE IN PALMY THAT WOULD BE ABLE TO PICK THEM UP. ANYONE ELSE INTERESTED IN SOME?
evilknieval69
im guessing you would be paying about $80-$90 per bulb but if you sold 10 of the units you would get your money back I would definately buy at least two from you if youdid buy them If i had the contact like you (your mate) i would do it (hint hint ) Rogan
fishboi
there is a member in this forum that sells them http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/metal- ... 13354.html
chimera
yeah, 150W DE 10k bulbs (cheap and dirty ones) around the $70 mark. for something half decent you're more around the $100 mark. as stated above, the bulbs that come with the units are pretty useless, for freshwater probably around 6500k would give best plant growth, for marine 10K or higher is better

Here's a kicker, I recently picked up a 150W DE unit with 'marine' bulb. Turns out it's only 3K!! I wasn't too fussed because the unit was cheap, but what got me was the this was recommended to the seller for their tank by an expert! Ira
You do NOT want to remove the glass that blocks the UV. Plants don't use much UV anyway, and not in the spectrum that a DE metal halide produces. Now, if you want to give everything in your tank a killer sunburn, feel free, but you might get a better effect using a UV sterilizer lamp. DEFINATELY! go with ira on this - removal of this protective layer lets too much UV through and can do damage to plants in your tank!!! btw, i guarantee this auction will not go for just $50! probably more $200+
Bubbles
probably more $200+ You never know you're luck, I picked up my 150W DE for $66.00!!

fishboi
most shop fitting light bulbs are have UV stop glass which takes away all the good stuff just to be clear i was talking about the bulbs them self been made out of UV stop glass and should be changed not suggesting that he take the actual glass away. suphew
Arent HM and high pressure sodium two different type of ballasts etc? They look a bit like Mh bulbs but I don't know what Sodium bulbs look like. Also can't find the model listed on the web anywhere to check.
