reef
why not go to a shop so you can get some advice on how to set up. you wont save much money buying online in nz.
ghostface
shipping from overseas is quite pricey, however if you are looking at buying more expensive hardware, then it may end up saving you a fair bit of cash shopping either from the states or europe / UK [even after gst, import tax, etc]. some stuff you will find is about half the retail price it is here. if anyone tries to tell you different, they are probably a distributor . the advantage of europe over thet states is that anything that requires power to run will work here, as it is the same voltage - therefore only requires an adapter plug. stuff from the states is 120v so needs a stepdown transformer. as far as livestock goes, youree pretty much SOL trying to import stuff - you will need to buy fish from the pet stores, but most people will either give or sell you coral frags from their own tanks. as far as advice on setting up a tank, there are plenty of poeple on this forum that will be more than happy to advise on anything you want to know. just dont mention sand beds
Pegasus
Hi Reefman, Would be great if you could add your location to your profile to avoid a lot of questions. We also have a Welcome section if you care to tell us a bit about yourself Bill.
Feelers
Hey man I'm geussing your "fish_NEMO"??? Yeah www.deepblueaquarium.co.nz has fairly cheap lights if I'm correct, for most ot the marine things it's easier if you specifically know what your after. Are you after a tank for sea-horses? btw are you studying at canterbury per chance???
reef_man
NAH i am all the way up in the Waikato Cambridge (cloes to Hamilton) I am going for a reef tank with fish and iverts oh year and corals to... check you my new post on reefcentral Feelers! Feelers
If your after a mandarin, like the others say they need a big tank with lots of rockwork. I think its pretty rare to find a madarin that can be fed frozen foods, so that guy got lucky. Definately dont rely on that happening! Try to decide what you want in terms of livestock and tank size, and go from there. If you go the whole hog and want sps corals most people agree a 4ft minimum tank size, with a total cost of around $3000-$5000. It can be done cheaper though, but you'll have to be on the lookout for bargins, and possibly do some diy. It aint cheap , I'm studying too, so I dont have much cash but my tanks coming together (el cheapo). Although I'm going for a coldwater native tank, it would be more for what you're after. On the seahorse front, you pretty much want to have them on their own, so it would be quite limiting. Have a look through the members tanks section to see what your going for. Pc100's second tank looks like a good thing to base around.... http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/pc100s ... t8031.html

Joze
hydroponic suppliers are good for all sorts of things, lights, pumps heaters chemicals controllers etc and the prices are more than reasonable, not to mention competitive to many of the psuedo dealers. petplanet
you wont save much money buying online in nz. Wow, must have my whole pricing strategy all wrong. I thought my online prices were cheaper than most. http://www.petplanet.co.nz Our pumps are cheap as. Had a guy drive up from Hamilton to buy one because they were twice the price down there. Where in the country are you Reef Man? If you are in Auckland then I can probably do you a good deal on Arcadia lights if you are willing to wait a little while (supplier does not sit on much/any stock). Not worth shipping. And though most people bag them, my Seio pump is still going stong. Good current at a cheap price - we only do the 1100 and 1500 models.
