jetskisteve
I thought I'd give one of these Arctic Equipment skimmers a try, I put it in my rock tank opened the airtap full & left it for 3 days to bed in last night it started to pull some gunk out so i've closed the air a bit, here's a pic they are 600 total height running a needle wheel pump
WEKA
Do these have to run in a sump. What sort of cost.
ghostface
decent size... gunk looks quite wet tho what kind of air flow is going through it?
jetskisteve
Yep sump skimmers, no tuning yet so running wet a quick search tells me the Aquabee 2000/1 runs 350-400 L of air per hour?
jetskisteve
Day 2, the skimmer is leaning lightly as its just thrown in my rock tank has anyone read anything about having to be level for best performance?
suphew
I have wondered that as well, my skimmer is on a bit of a lean because of the bracing in the sump being in the way. But I'm having to empty it twice a week and its putting out good dark chunky crap so I've assumed its not too big a problem.
ghostface
dont imagine it would make much difference if its only a few degrees

JoeBlog
Just for a point of reference, do you know how much these skimmers cost and what are the dimensions? I know you said 600 total height, but can you let me know the size of the main chamber? Steve

lduncan
chamber is 450 wide footprint is 160x280 How is the chamber 450 in diameter, while the skimmer has a footprint of 160 x 280 ? 450 in diameter is big. Doesn't look that big in the photos, relative to the PVC tube, and fluro fittings, and that icecream container lid. Your tape measure must be broken. jetskisteve
Deltec are based on H&S as are these, They use a Quality pump & produce great results, at the end of the day spend more on something that does the same job.

This is the same thing that I would preach to anyone that would listen prior to seeing Layton’s deltec in action, which immediately prompted me to buy one for myself. There is no doubt that this “cheaper†skimmer will skim, but let’s not be ridiculous and say that it does the “same jobâ€. I happen to own a PILE of “cheap†skimmers and DIY skimmers in my garage. I wish I would have just purchased the Deltec first since in the end, I’ve probably paid twice as much to come to the final conclusion. However, everyone needs to learn this on their own. jetskisteve
Ah yes but for you money is no object is it? Just look how much you paid for yr Deltec! This is not a "cheap" skimmer... only by price I too love Deltec and will happily sell you one ( for lots more cash than these)
