I don't have opaline gourami but have just breed Dwarf gourami - so heres what I have been told.

eggs have been laid - remove the female

once the eggs have hatched remove the male.

place crushed up lettuce in the tank to start growing influorsa (not sure how its spelt) and get some liquid fry No 1 (for egg layers) and start feeding them that when they start moving.

and hoepfully that will help until someone with some more experience helps you out.

cheers Karen

Bit of a change there.

The male is left in till the babies are free swimming, then removed.

The reason is that as the babies hatch and are trying out their fins, they drop from the nest.

His job is to catch them and spit them back again.

Only feed when they are free swimming, which is when dad is removed..

Keep the water level down to about 100mm, and keep a tight lid on the tank.

This helps keep the air at the right temp and the humidity up.

Green water is an ideal food at this time too, and instaed of buying "fry-food", make your own.

You only need to hard-boil an egg and use the hard yolk and pinch between fingers into water to make an emulsion.

This does contaminate the water quickly, so have a cleanup crew of snails there to eat surplus leftovers.

Best to have a BB tank to for ease of cleaning.

Remember lots of small water changes, as the egg yolk will foul the water, as the fry start to get a little bigger, you can feed then BBS (baby brine shrimp) these are hatched from Brine Shrimp Eggs, you can also feed the bubbas up on Microworms, you will have to get a culture off someone tho, people here sell them, maybe PM Blue and Kim, thats where I got mine from.

Good Luck

Lynda

just to elaborate on the tight lid, humidity part just incase your not sure why to do that its because gouramis can breath air and while the baby fishies are developing their labyrinth (air breathing organ) they need warmer air, preferably the same as the water im told so as not to damage the development of the labyrinth.

Hi Aaron,

Welcome to the fishroom :)

If you are just doing partial water changes.. (without major cleanups).. then find a piece of clear hose (7mm bore is good).. and then make up a small block of sponge around 50mm long by 25mm wide.

Poke a hole into the sponge down its length (but not through the full length).. and insert the hose.

This next bit is a little bit tricky... but when you want to start siphoning the water out, you will need to fill the hose by submersing it underwater till it stops bubbling, then nip off the "open" end with your thumb and place the end in a bucket below the water line.

The hose will start to siphon the water... but not the fry.. which you can see are "very" tiny.

Infusoria can be found in vases that have held flowers. The water is usually quite murky, and often green.. which is all beneficial to the fry.

How about a post in the Welcome section to tell us about yourself.

Bill.
