I have several large, 10-20cms and upto 10 years old, goldfish in a tank plus one common bully. These fish recently came out of a pond. I put 5 oxygen weed plants into the tank but the golfish have eaten all the leaves off within 1 week. Since they were out of the pond do I have to feed them plants all the time, they seem to eat the pellet food but they eat heaps. Any suggestions on any plants I could put in that they wouldnt eat so they have some shelter, any suggestions appreciated!!!

Thanks :)

OK thanks. Sounds like a nice place to live.

As long as the place you get the weed from is clean and disease free you could chuck in a piece or two every week or so. It would help with providing variety in their food. No fish likes to have the same thing day in and day out. So yea feed them a bit if it is available. They probably eat lettuce and cucumber and other garden veges to. :P

The oxygen weed I have growns in the dirt. Have to keep cutting it back as it grows over the path. Origionally it was one or two bunches from the pet shop that I put in the pond. It must have developed roots. When I cleamed out the pond it just decided to grow wild. lol

Now I pull up bunches with roots attatched and plant them in the fish tank. It seems to take off all right.

Hope this link works as I have never tried this before. This piece was growing in the garden. I pulled it up 2 weeks ago to plant in a small tank which I needed for some snails. I brought the origional piece from my local pet shop atleast 6 yrs ago. It was in a fish tank in the shop and was sold for about $2 as oxygen weed.

I like it because the stupid goldfish eat everything else so having free replacements easily on hand is a great boon

As you may have guessed by the name, oxygen weed helps oxygenate the water so is good for the fish. Plants are always good in a tank to help keep it balanced and in good health.
