skuzza
It hit me this week like a ton of bricks how much this addiction has cost so far. After adding it up i was a little blowen away. Some how i managed to spend $19000.00 odd dollars and the thing is still 90% empty.Post the cost of your tanks to date i bet they cost more than you thought and were ever going to spend.I am shocked.Anyone want to buy a marine tank only $18999.99 christmas special. lduncan
I'd hate to think! So many mistakes early on, buying shit equipment, poor advice, and lack of knowledge ramped up the costs, until I found RC and similar sites about 5 years ago. I've learned a hell of a lot since then, there are so many different interesting aspects to the hobby. Layton
puttputt
Over $10,000 so far..... Not counting the streams and controller (TS24 kit) on its way from seame, and the 902 deltec on the list for early next year....... another couple of 6100's on that controller would be nice... lduncan
But i guess you arnt students with a part time job....... I was, until the end of this year. Still managed to spend tens of thousands over the time i've been in the hobby. Layton
lduncan
I was adding up some prices for the upgrade (if it ever happens!) came to $8,000 without even trying. And that's reusing most of my current equipment! Plus I want to go low iron glass ( of course), and by the looks of things it's going to be mega $$ for that. Need to save a bit longer for that I think. But on the plus side, it will be in wall, and i'll be able to finally fix all the design flaws and annoyances in my current tank, like the overflow, and sump. Feelers
What does the low iron glass do? Is this to stop iron leaching into the tank?
livebearer_breeder
Its far clearer glass. Shows off true colour. Shae
lduncan
What does the low iron glass do? Is this to stop iron leaching into the tank? No, nothing like that. It's a lot clearer. Standard glass has a green tint to it (from the iron content) when you get up to thicker glass it can become more noticeable.
wasp
Ha Ha  . I thought you were REALLY going a bit overboard with your iron thing Layton  But then you said it was for the clarity. NOW I get it . had me fooled.

wasp
Nice to know there is always someone down in Christchurch, thinking about me. Did you know I used to live there?
lduncan
Really? How long ago?
wasp
Long time. When I was aged 16 I got a job down there. First few months I boarded with a young couple but they had marriage troubles it was pretty high stress, then I went flatting, that had it's moments too one night someone nearly got shot with a 303 rifle by his drunk girlfriend caught him cheating. Had the barrel stuck in my face while trying to stop this.( As you can see I never made it to Uni ) Lived there 2 years then went to kaitaia. Never been back I doubt i would recognise the place now. Feelers
Christchurch is a very violent place. Apparantly the high sucide rate (highest for any city in the world) is due to the positivly charged nor-westers and their depressent affect - no really! Violent crimes everywhere. It's quite an odd place really.
lduncan
I think Ashburton holds that title. Never really seen it as a violent crime sort of city though.
wasp
Yes I remember what struck me, was that at that time anyway, it was very monocultural (white) and everybody had nice houses, yet there was all these white kids from good homes with tats and nazi attitudes and stuff. The girls though were definately more entertaining than where I came from, maybe there's something in the air down there Feelers? Didn't know it had the highest suicide rate that's surprising, it is a nicely laid out, attractive city. Strange!
