lduncan
Deltecs have been around a while, and have had time to be refined. Don't know the development history of the BK. It may not have matured like the deltec design has. There is more to skimmer design than just throwing some air and water into a acrylic tube. Dunno how they design them (trial and error, or fluid dynamics computer simulations) but I would think that the entry angle (in three dimensions) of the water would be a significant factor effecting efficiency, as well as the design of the needle wheel impeller and Venturi size on the pumps. Either way, the BK is out of my acceptable price range! But those tanks that Royal Exclusive put together are pretty impressive. Probably some of the best setups in the world! skuzza
I have to say the skimmer is seriously sucking the poo out of the tank.I wonder how i did it with the piece of junk i had for so many years. And the streams well words cant describe how good they are.I recomend saving up and getting some of those and chuck the pumps and home made plumbing out the window. lduncan
People always worry about the cost of streams and the Deltec skimmers, but once you finally do buy them, I have yet to hear of anyone who has been disappointed.
reef
It is pretty good to hear some good feedback on these products, It has been hard work to get hobbyist to finally understand what i have been going on for years that quality equipment is the way to go and cheaper in the long run. It is interesting reading the old posts about a year ago and seeing all the seio lovers changing to streams and Deltecs.
chimera
nothing wrong with seio's on small tanks as with anything, quality makes all the difference
reef
nothing wrong with seio's on small tanks They would be ok if they were reliable. But they follow the tradition of Rios.
Ira
It is interesting reading the old posts about a year ago and seeing all the seio lovers changing to streams and Deltecs. Won't be seeing any by me any time soon. And I'm far from impressed by my deltec skimmer...
lduncan
nothing wrong with seio's on small tanks That's what I thought. But I was proved wrong as soon as I plugged it in. Total crap. Layton
wasp
IRA, could it be a tuning issue or something? What model have you got?And how long for, did it ever work well? Now I have a deltec I just can't see how they'd perform poorly unless there is some kind of problem. Give us some info!
Feelers
Personally I hate all the politics and marketing crap that's within the hobby. Deltecs are obviously awsome but they are also at the premium price bracket for what they are. I can't wait until chineese manufacturing gets better, and the high cost brands have some real competition. My eheim cannister filter knockoff is pretty awsome, and at around the 5th of the price, I'm stoked with it. (granted I havent used it for long so time will tell) I never feel like I'm getting a good deal when I buy (new) aquarium stuff, its that shallow empty feeling like at the cricket when you have to buy beer- and its $4 a bottle. It tastes good, but its just not the same. 8)

Now I have a deltec I just can't see how they'd perform poorly unless there is some kind of problem. Give us some info! It seems to either do nothing or blow dry foam all over the place. Maybe it's working great and I just have nothing to compare it to. It takes maybe a week or two per cup of skimmate, none of my adjustments seem to make much difference and it's perform about the same the entire time I've had it...I guess it's working ok, but I expected more from a $700 skimmer from the uber-godlike deltec... Brianemone
my via aqua takes about the same amount of crap out of my tank with only one fish in it and i still have my seio running fine, and once i get my beckett humming along on friday i can almost garuntee that deltec will not be taking residence on my wish list
cracker
Ira, which model do you have....a couple of models have reversible motors...this will more than likely be the cause. Simple to fix and the difference is phenomenal. 500? 600? or 1250 Turbo?

puttputt
Tend to agree with reef and skuzza, my deltec was by far the best investment i have made so far, and although my seios are working fine, they don't compare to the Tunze Streams, which is why 2 more are on there way to me now...... Brianemone
yep no doubt the tunze are really the only suitible long term solution currently on the market, i am waiting for the new vortex product to make my final decision as to which i go with
reef
And I'm far from impressed by my deltec skimmer Sounds like it needs to be set correctly. i used a deltec hangon for some time and it skimmed no problem. looking at your tank it looks like everything is doing well, especially the coralline algae. Its a bit like someone telling me there is something wrong with a salifert test kit and finding out that it was used incorrectly

reef
can't wait until chineese manufacturing gets better, and the high cost brands have some real competition That will never happen. we already get aquamedic and other skimmers that are made in china. You are talking about two different markets, also lot of the costs is tax, freight,
Pies
Isn't Aquamedic made in Germany? There factory and head office is in Germany? Pie
Doc Holiday
I agree that deltec are a superior product but they just don't fit everyones budget. There millions of successfull reef tanks in the states and only a tiny minority of these run deltecs so they must have products of a similar quality. I myself can not afford the deltec that I want so I am forced to look at other options. One skimmer that i am currently looking at is on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/Predator-IV-Dual-40 ... dZViewItem , I am just waiting on a reply to see if he will ship to NZ.
