CraigMcN
Hi All, After a few unsuccesful attempts, my Kribs have managed to overrun my community tank with about 50 fry. I thought they'd all get snacked on by the Angels and others (like previous batches), but they're up to about 1cm long now, and I really need to get them out before they overwhelm the entire tank. It's a heavily planted 200L tank with harlequins, angels, bolivian rams, hatchets, and corys. What's the best way to track down 50 small krib fry and get them out of there in one piece? Any better ideas than spending hours up to my armpits in the tank with a couple of nets? Thanks! Craig.
Bruce
Hi Craig Best (easiest) way is to siphon them out with a gravel cleaner Good Luck Bruce
mrshanepaul
lol. Just out of interest: Would this be a good idea if you were wanting to keep them? I assume that they would be shaken, but not harmed?
Wok
Tried using a net? Using your hands is quite difficult

alanmin4304
You can adjust the velocity of the siphon by the height of the receiving bucket and make the trip easier by having the receiving end under water. I have done it with angels without problems
CraigMcN
Cheers everyone, I'll give it a go this weekend and see what happens C.
Grizzly
depending on the size of the fry, you could also use airline tubing. the watter flows slower throught the airline as oposed to the big siphon tube. done it many times and works great. good luck
Luke*
Also, use a deep bucket and siphon it 1/3 full first, that way the fry won't get smacked against the bottom of the bucket. If you raise the bucket like Alanmin said too that will decrease the rate of water flow.
CraigMcN
Well, I gave it a go, and I think I left it too long... The fry are now big enough to swim against the flow of the gravel vac (and look really funny swimming for all they're worth in the tube , and get spooked too easily if anything else gets close to them. I might have to spend some time and patience with nets... Thanks! C.
Caryl
Once you have some in the tube, slip a net over the bottom of it then lift all out of the water.
alanmin4304
Just use the hose, the gravel cleaner is designed to increase the area of the intake and therefore decrease the velocity (and leave the gravel behind) Using the hose on its own will increase the velocity in the hose. monaro1
if thay are big enough to swim against the flow then as alanmin said just the hose and thay should be fine.works for me.i lose a lot more when i try to use the net the littel suckers are still alive in the filter so a hose will be fine
