Haha, dont worry Ira, I wasnt the one tasting it. - as I knew what it would do.

An amusing afternoon. My friends tongue actually bled :P He said all he could taste was bitterness for a few days. Looked very painful.

Found the number for Clarkes Products - 0508 425 275.

When I worked at Sea Lords, I saw a guy who has spill3e caustic soda on himself. He squealed so loud, I can still hear it. He came back to work about 15 months later, his ear was melted into his head, 3 fingers on his right hand had fused together, one of his nostrals has been closed, his dick (sorry) has melted into his leg etc etc etc. He slipped (its very slimy) and a hopper boiled over him, NASTY NASTY NASTY.

Yip it's as with anything, it's far more dangerous when boiling hot! (Kalk can be pretty bad at high temp too)

The reason it feels slippery is because it's used in making soap when combined with oils or fats. When you get it on you hands it slowly turn the oils to a soapy substance.

It's safe if handled properly. You can have (and I have had) a highly concentrated solution on my fingers, and you can wash it under plenty of cold water and have it show no signs that it was there. It doesn't hurt nor does it leave any permanent mark. If it is left without washing soon after however, it ends up drying the skin out, and you can get cracking and sometimes splitting.

Just don't use boiling water when you mix it up, and if you get it on your fingers wash them with heaps of cold water. (Just like you should do when you burn yourself on the halides! Don't know how many times I've done that!).

You can handle the pellet form safely. It is the powder (caustic soda) that is much worse.

The pellets just make your hands feel soapy, NO protection is needed. If it wasnt safe they wouldnt pass it round in 6th form chem. Its just not good to put it on your tongue!

The pellets are very safe, about the size of an MnM. The caustic stuff is what they use in fight club to burn his arm, very nasty.

Feelers - correct, it requires a catalyst to react (water). So you can hold it in your hand without any worries (its just dry granulated, like salt), but if your hands sweaty...

As for putting it on your tounge. i'll give you $10 for every 10seconds you can hold a tea spoon full on for... I'll give you $100 for every 10 seconds if you do it whilst gargling a mouthfull of Coke.
