OK so I have just bought another new tank...an aqua one tank, finally got it out of the box and on the standbut... can anyone tell me which way the filter wool goes... there is two white pieces and a black with the ceramic noodles, do I put the 2 white on the bottom of the filter chamber then the black on top then the noodles?

UPDATE: Whoops just realised its a UFO 880 not a AR

If its an 850 or 980 there should be 2 white and 2 black, i had the same thing with my 850 when i bought it, tell the shop one was missing as they don't seem to check them before they sell them.

I have the black on top, white underneath then the noodles on the bottom.

ROCKETMAN, the reason i put the noodles underneath both layers is to keep as much gunk out of the noodles as possible.

If you find the tank noisy i use a piece of filter wool (bought in bulk) about 30mm thick on top of the others as a pre-filter and it stops the water falling on water noise.

I also use one of the black wool pieces over the outlet hole to stop it aerating the water to much and to try to preserve any CO2 in the water.

Installation was acording to Aquaone instructions ( white filter- fine on bottom and then noodles and black filter - coarse on top )

I'm also running a Deltec skimmer fitted through the filter box - I've already removed the filter etc .. when I installed the skimmer - didn't notice any gunk ( just noodle dust ) .

No problem with air bubbles etc..

I get them ocassionally when the skimmer's working ( just after feed time )

Does your 880 filter make a lot of noise? I just filled my new tank last night (no instructions provided with the Tank or the Stand) and I am not happy with the noise I am getting from the filter.

There is a drowne sound which is amplified when the light unit is on the tank and even worse when the feeder flap is lowered.

Also there is quite a lot of noise from the water exiting the pipes onto the filter material.

I fell like binning the internal filter as I do not think I could live with the sound - I can hear it in every room in the house.

Please let me know your experiences?

See my blog for my detail on my Aqua One UFO 880

I actually havent filled it yet, I am still trying to decide on substrate etc.!!

I spoke to the lady I bought the tank from at www.cyberpets.co.nz and she was going to contact the importers (kongs)

I hope I can find a resolution without having to spend a lot more money - I want to spend the money on Fish and not Filters.

Cheers

iisfaq, check out my post earlier to quiet down the splashing from the filter, sometimes they can drone but if you move the filter and light apart and try moving the lide it should go away.

I can't find your post about this - I did 3 searches and only got this message.

A bulk bag of filter wool is the answer to all the noise probs with the Aqua One filters. Stick some under the spray bar to lessen the fall of the water and dampen the noise, use a bit to keep the filter and light hood separated, and stuff some down the outlet pipe (just a bot, don't want a flood) and almost all noise is gone. I run the hood filter as well as an external and find that the hood filter does an excellent job, though releasing a cloud of gunk every time it gets jostled annoys the heck out of my discus (gunk + slime = itchy fish).

I have beenin contact with Kongs and they have so far sent me a new Power Head (which did not make any difference) and they are now sending me a new complete Filter Unit.

I really do not think that this will make a difference as it appears to me to be a design flaw.

I am thinking that the only way to get around the problem is to get an external canister filter.

mine sems to be fine.....its a little noisy but nothing over the top, although I have carbon in a filter bag in both sides which raises the wool to just underneath the spay bar.

Mine is definatly a different problem - they are going to send me a new filter unit.

Sound is so hard to describe but mine is a drone and also another sound. I am getting a new filter unit either this week or Monday so maybe that will help.

If not I am looking for a Canister filter.
