HelifaxNZ
Hi Folks, I've been trying to find information on how you handle the Corals and Anemones. I've read that people have been stung by corals. Do you wear protective gloves(like the latex or plastic) when handling them? Cheers HelifaxNZ. gregb
It pays to wear gloves just in case. I use the plastic ones , they are cheaper.

Ira
My hammer coral HAS stung me...On the back of my fingers when I've bumped it. Guess it takes some good force and a spot with thin skin. Not really painful though, more irritating. I can't be bothered with gloves. Bruce
Yes, we wear gloves when handling the corals or feeding. The gloves come from a friend who does "HerdTesting" got a box of 100 the other day, should keep us going for a while Use them if you can Better Safe Than Sorry /Bruce
lduncan
The only coral which i've come across which packs any sort of punch is the fire coral. But that's only when the little "hairs" are out. Euphillias any hydnos you might feel, but not exactly painful. I don't bother with gloves. Brianemone
dont use gloves myself. if i were to use them i would invest in some nice ones designed for a reef tank (no coatings or anything) that you reuse.
ghostface
can anything general growing in a tank do you any real damage if it punctures your skin?
Brianemone
slappers lionfish would oh and his platapus. sometimes you see nasty infections on RC and the people going to hospital, i think most have had a cut or something that gets infected. Ira
Some urchins probably could to. But for the most part any injury you get in the tank it's more the cut or puncture you need to worry about. I suppose if you accidentally got a bad cut and then rubbed some zoanthids in the cut you might get a dose of palyotoxin... Oh, some nudibranchs are nasty too.
