lduncan
I've been asked to assemble part of the coral list which will be contributed towards the review. I am collecting the information into a database in order to keep track of it properly. Here is a link to more info. This is so that you can have your input into what is included. http://www.nzreefs.com/phpBB2/viewforum ... bacac7ca89

lduncan
Thanks Brian. I have updated the list, and added a few more species. http://www.nzreefs.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=16 Anyone who is a fan of LPS send your species to me. I've got the acros covered, and many leathers / soft corals. Also need some more uncommon corals which may be in the country. Layton
SteveA
I have a friend coming in to do a photoshoot of two tanks over the weekend. Photos will include: Acropora clathrata Acropora formosa Acropora gemmifera Acropora longicyathus Acropora nobilis Acropora robusta Acropora tenuis Caulastrea furcata Echinopora lamellosa Favites abdita Fungia danai Fungia moluccensis Galaxea fascicularis Goniastrea edwardsi Hydnophora exesa Hydnophora rigida Leptastrea purpurea Leptoria phrygia Lobophyllia hemprichii Merulina ampliata Montipora capricornis Montipora danae Montipora verrucosa Pachyseris rugosa Pavona decussata Plerogyra sinuosa Polyphyllia talpina Porites lobata Porites lutea Scolymia vitiensis Seriatopora hystrix Stylophora pistillata Trachyphyllia geoffroyi Tubastraea faulkneri Turbinaria patula Turbinaria reniformis Plus quite a few more I will have to do some more work to ID, including a bunch more acros and a favia. Where you do not indicate a photo is required, does that mean you already have a photo? Steve
lduncan
Thanks Steve, yes where nothing is indicated for the photo, it means I already have a photo. You can download a PDF (around 4MB) with the photos included here: http://www.nzreefs.com/corallistcp.pdf Layton
Brianemone
i suppose other people are handling the other species?
lduncan
I'm focussing on corals. Adding to the list when i have time around other work. I have well over 700 species in my database (mainly hard corals), however i'm only displaying ones which are known or highly likely to be in NZ. It's easier with corals than with fish, because when it comes to the crunch taxonomists have trouble ID'ing species from sight, meaning if we cover the distinctive species within a genus, then whose going to tell the difference between closely related species. Then there are species which are illegal to trade, rare, or are limited to African or Red Sea reefs, which we just can't get. I think the fish is a MUCH bigger task. Ira
Corals tend to sit still so you can take their pic too....
Warren
Great PDF file. Will you be submitting forms of these? I'll update the website with the species you've listed. Any more info you can send, please email it direct.
Warren
Does anyone have a fish list they can send me or point me to?
lduncan
reef is sorting the marine fish side of things. Contact him.
Warren
I've added corals to the Fish Study page so submit away please (copied from NZ Reefs). I still need to add fish, please advise where I can find a list of species available/present in NZ.
Warren
reef is sorting the marine fish side of things. Contact him. This maybe so but there are bound to be other species he can't cover...
lduncan
That coral list is by no means complete. Reef is co-ordinating the marine side of things, so contact him for info. Being an importer I believe that MAF are requesting invoices from him as proof of what has entered the country over the last few years, combined with invoices from the Auckland importers before him. Ira
I thought MAF had said invoices aren't good enough?
reef
need invoices and work towards photos, one bloody big job.
Warren
That may be so but photographic evidence of each species is required before MAF and ERMA will accept the species as actually here. Go here: http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fish_study/ to read the requirements...
reef
yes they might, but at this stage it is impossable to photograph every coral/fish. it will take years.
