Brianemone
get a decent skimmer but seriously what does it feel like?? is it firmly attached to the rock or does it come off freely. try dropping down the photo period on the halides by a few hours (2 or so) for a little while and see if that has an impact. also is it in areas of the tank with lower flow or is it just in random places?? slappers
oh its my skimmer aye damn i knew i shouldn't have got that Beckett changed it to a Deltec now it fells like jelly but firm, stuck well to rocks and growing randomly
Pies
Without sounding too silly, its algae. Cause = high nutrients, DOC & probably phosphates. Is you tank less than 6 months setup? If so, then write it off to cycle, and skim your heart out. Pie
Ira
That looks a bit more like a sponge than algae. Has more of a sponge texture, unless that's just the picture...And it's probably not a happy sponge if it's got bubbles in it. Is it in the light, slapper? Or is it under a rock where it doesn't get any light. If it's in the light it's algae, if it's not it's probably a sponge.
slappers
OK cheers Pies, i will just let it do what it wants for now
lduncan
The fact that there are bubbles in there makes me think it's algae, plus it looks slimy not really the texture of a sponge. Keep skimming and the tank free of detritus, it will clear, but could take some time.
slappers
yes its like a sponge its in the light and got bubbles in it, just cycling i think
Pies
Its green. Its got air bubbles in it. It grows in the light. I'd bet a zillion dollars on it being algae. Pie

chimera
I'd bet a zillion dollars on it being algae i'd bet that too. if it pulls off easily enough it'll be hair algae no doubt. or if its more slimey in texture and heaps of small bubbles it's cyanobacteria. definately not a sponge. Ira
I have some sponges in my tank that, if the picture is slightly blurry and with the addition of bubbles would look identical to that.

cracker
Then again, cyno is a form of algae. The oldest type known to man. Its like the link between bacteria and algae.
