peanuts
my hubby liked the look of the apple snail so we purchased a large one, and brought it home, then for some unexplained reason he went and got another two - smaller in size - all a bright orange. now I have two questions - I know they are plant eaters and have put in lettuce occassionally for them - but is there any food designed for them that I can get to stop them eating there way through my plants. second is we have/had some eggs - if they are eggs from the snails - how long will it take for them to hatch. any other info on these things you wish to impart would be helpful. cheers

Alan
Where were the eggs laid, and what colour are they. No to the plant eating habit either. Alan
peanuts
thanks Caryl thats a great site, very informative, and we discovered the type we have, and it explains why they where eating some vegetation and not others. and Alan it was there eggs - laid above water and orange in colour. cheers
Alan
Yep, dats da ones alright. When I was keeping them I had an airstone almost underneath them so that they would stay moist. Or else, have a real tight fitting lid to stop the eggs dehydrating. Don't have fish in the tank that can eat them as they hatch. They love them. Loopy
i feed my 8 snails floating cichlid pellets. There are ones about the size of a small pea. the snails have learnt to associate the sound of the pellet hitting the water with food and so come "running" up to the top of the tank. they seem kinda confused if i chuck in spuralina discs, which sink, instead! i gave them a bit of parsley yesterday which they ate but not with the same enthusiasim(sp?) they had when i gave them some vallsenaria(sp?) (wonder why!?!)

Loopy
what i find funny too is watching an apple snail trying to climb up the heater when it is switched on. hard to describe what they do but you can usually guarentee(sp?) they will fall off eventually! *Think walking across a beach on a really hot day*
