September 6, 200521 yr comment_63778 A powerhead is basically just a motor moving water or circulating it, depending on the LPH. It can be attached to a filter catridge and used as a filter. Report
September 11, 200521 yr comment_64704 Perfect explanation LBB Best place to place a power head is at one of the ends towards the back, thats where I have found mine most usefull as it circulates the water more efficiently. I recommend them as they help provide oxygen to the water. I have the 1000LPH and the 500LPH in my 4ft tank. Here is some pictures of our Powerhead Filters. This one is a Minature Powerhead filter that circulates 200LPH This one is a Pro Aqua Multi-function Internal Power Filter that circulates 1000LPH This is an Aqua One, circulating 500LPH Report
September 11, 200521 yr Author comment_64726 I have an external filter-it appears to be doing the same thing? Report
September 11, 200521 yr comment_64733 Hi Oscar, An external filter is made up of tow main bits. A pump, and filter media. A pump is a powerhead, and is used one way or other in (virtually) every type of filter system. In my opinion, for freshwater use, its always beneficial to have some sort of filter pad between the tank and the pump.....and power filters cost basically the same as powerheads. Not counting air-powered systems of course! Report
