Pegasus
Hi Oscar.. Welcome to the NZ Fishroom Heat rises.. so the lower you can get it without touching the gravel the better the heat distribution. Usually... horizontal across the middle back is a good place. Timmy
I try and tend to put mine at a 45 degree angle at one end of tank, then put an air stone under it,so it cause's a current passed the heating eliment, thus giveing an even heat ditrubution. This also can be done with a power head of some kind. Ira
Really, though, unless you have a very stagnant tank as long as it's in the water you're going to be fine.
Oscar
The reason I asked is because I have just replaced an old heater with no definition on the controller with a new one and had to turn it up to 32 deg(its maximum) to get the tank up to 25-25.6 deg.I had it next to a long air stong so I turnt that off and have dropped the heater to 29 deg and tank is sitting at 26-26.8.The heater is for tanks up to 100ltrs and mine is 90 lts. Ira
NEVER use the marks on the side of the thermometer as anything more than an extremely rough estimate of the setting.
Wok
I would place the heater under your outflow of your filter. heat rises so the heated water will get pushed around your tank. That is what I have done with my (now) 2 tanks. seems to work pretty well. To get proper heating indications I place a thermometer at the other end of the tank to get my readings. monaro1
i agree i put mine so my spraybar sprays at it so the heated water gets pushed around. i use a few different thermometers to find an average on the temp. out of all the thermometers i have i find that thay can vary from 2/3 degrees between them when in the same tank
