chimera
Read the whole post again and follow instructions i suggest you do the same reef, you're quoting information on a skimmer when it's first out of the box. since the first post it was indicated it has "worked fine for ages.." i also got the impression its already been running for a few days since it's been cleaned otherwise this topic would not have continued
reef
First out of the box or after it has been cleaned might cause bubbles to come out. but it stops after 2-3 days, any new skimmer being cleaned could do that . i thought it was pretty clear. chimera
i thought we'd ruled that out?

misnoma
Given the initial post said a) running for 8 months b) started bubbling like crazy c) THEN cleaned it and still bubbling How do you explain b) ? This is what people are trying to explain... not out of box, not just cleaned, but doing it anyway.

chimera
for anyone else having this issue... steve says he puts it on his tank, no problem with bubbles. he finds out the problem is the brand of salt they use. this is backed up by what i found on the deltec web site... This can be quite normal and is a result of the salt water that they have produced not as yet being mature enough for the high performance of the Deltec skimmers. Many brands of salt used for aquarium water are made up from component parts to reproduce the elements found in natural sea water. One of the additives introduced to many salts is a conditioning agent which is put in to react with heavy metals and toxins in the water and neutralise their negative effect. The down side of these additives is that they can increase the surface tension of the water and enable bubbles to hold their form much longer than would be natural with mature salt water. wasp
What was the salt brand? Was the water changed 100% or something? A small water change ought not to cause too much grief.
cookie extreme
A small water change ought not to cause too much grief. it could! drip a little bit of oil (fish or shellfish not car) on the surface and your skimmer will collapse for a while. why not the opposite, put some new ASW into your tank and some skimmers go into overdrive. RnB
my deltec goes crazy with a change of NSW......
skuzza
It sounds like the problem is in the part that contains the bubbles when the air tap is opened. If it does not make bubbles when tap is of that rules out cracks or air gaps to create air bubbles. It sounds like the airated water is getting to the water return instead of being contained. Are the bubbles coming out on the wrong angle maybe?, or a piece of plastic or pipe blowen out in his tank somewhere.Sounds like mind bender this one. jetskisteve
it is "Crystal sea" salt causing the prob. Anyone else use this brand???
lduncan
I've used it before no problems. It does seem to need to sit longer to stabilise (a couple of days) than other salts like red sea or instant ocean. Layton
puttputt
Steve, its the same salt i asked about a few days ago, I've used it from the startup and dont have any problems, my deltec works fine and doesn't vary with new water changes.
