Laura
Aaargh! Our big tank appears to be infested with mozzies. Would anyone know how this could come about, and the best way to tackle the problem? Already I have an ominous red lump on my backside. It's unsettling how determined the critters are to get inside your underpants... Have I just set myself up for some embarrassing speculation about my suspicious rashes? I'm a one-man woman! Honestly!! Help...they've breached the coffee table! MA, save yourself! ...Fizzle....crackle...BOOM!...rumble.... Er...I'd like to point out that we are not under the ruthless tyranny of legions of crotch-biting blood-suckers. They have not, nor ever have, attempted to hook our brains up to electrodes and a microwave in order to control our actions. Indeed, they find the whole accusation of torture methods involving footage of Anna Nicole Smith as personally insulting, as everybody knows that was just a dirty smear campaign masterminded by Nemo and the hoplos. They are sweet and unassuming creatures, tragically misunderstood. We should all join them in one big group hug. Bring money. Laura
Modern Angl
Just like to point out, Laura has not had her daily dose of alcohol yet, but the bit about our 6ft tank being infested with mosquito's is quite correct. I spotted around 200+ mozzies floating at the top of the tank and on the underside of the glass lids. I've squished quite a few, but plenty remain. I'm planning on emptying the thank and moving the fish out and generally cleaning out the tank to hell and back. Remember folks, having a mosquito colony in your lounge may be good for your fish, but its not quite my thing
Ira
Uhh, how about putting fish in the tank? There must not be any in there otherwise they should have all been eaten.
Modern Angl
There are 39 fish in there, 5 of them plecs. They have been eating the mozzies, but there are that many of them they are still getting through
Snowman
There are plenty of fish that would love to have that many mossies for dinner, guppies, swords, most fish. My angels would have a field day in there and probably explode LOL
Ira
Maybe you have a bunch of vegan fish? I've put thousands of mosquito larvae in my tanks and they were all eaten within a day.
Eon
you are so lucky i wish i had that many
Alan
Killies would go "APE" on them. Get some 'Gold Wonders', prolly the easiest to get from your LFS, and colourful too. Alan
Wok
Ahhh what I would give up to have a self sustaining colony of mozzies for my fish tank. As the others have said the fish should of finished them off long ago. have you checked the back of your tank to see if there was a pool of water there that the mozzies are breeding in? :-? HummingBird
They have not, nor ever have, attempted to hook our brains up to electrodes and a microwave in order to control our actions. Of course, if they did succeed in actually doing that they'd have you say that anyways.
Billaney
catch as many mozzies as you can, put then in a contanier and bring them over for my fish they would love them
Laura
It does sound like the best solution for a renewable live food resource. Problem is, their breeding abilities far outweighed our wee fishies' appetites - they weren't picking them off. When MA had a look in the tank this morning he said, in between longs periods of scratching his bites to pieces, there were literally thousands upon thousands of mozzies (not larvae). They'd carpeted the plants on the top of the tank. We couldn't come up with a way we could collect them quickly or efficiently, without ourselves turning into a red lump with teeth. Sorry to those hoping to pick up a few - we simply had to get rid of the things! Laura
jude
When MA had a look in the tank this morning he said, in between longs periods of scratching his bites to pieces I had to read that twice - I thought you said "his bits"  Jude
