adamh
Hi. I have just caught a reasonably large one armed koura. I have it outside in a chilly bin so the kids can see it before I put it in the pond. It has eaten 5 peas and a worm already. .so it occurred to me you could overfeed them. Is this a concern and how much should they be fed to keep them happy enough to stay?
kiwiraka
Theyre scavengers and they dont need much food to survive, but once they are full the food will go to waste and pollute the water.

adamh
Thanks...but can anyone give me an indication of a suitable daily intake? ie how much?
Yellow
I'm no expert but since they move around less than goldfish they'd expend less energy and so... an earthworm and five peas and week is what I'd prescribe. But perhaps you can contact NZCC for their feeding rates and then halve that.
blueether
I would think that would be plenty. in a pond they will list eat detritus (leaf litter and the bugs on that) and the odd bug or three

Adrienne
Just had a look in the pond and he/she is still in residence. Yay. It can't escape can it? Once caught it is illegal to release or allow to get out. I am hope 'still in residence' means alive
