Untested
Hi all So, collected my new (to me) Aquaone AR620 (90L) today. It's clearly been in storage and is absolutely filthy!! I'm thinking I'll give it a good clean up with weak bleach and soap solution prior to use...... Is there any reason not to use bleach or soap when cleaning a tank? Is there something better/safer? There's a bunch of ornaments (driftwood, coral) that I won't use bleach on which I'll just pour boiling water over I reckon......As with the gravel for the bottom. Am I on the right track here? Cheers A
Sophia
It's been said that a dilution of 1 part bleach to 20 parts water will kill algae on plants but not the plants so that would probably be ok to use on the ornaments too. If it's been dry for a long time most or all of the aquatic bugs and algae will be dead anyway and a bit of soap and water would be enough. You just have to make sure to rinse it plenty to get all the detergent out or your fish will be blowing bubbles 8)

Adrienne
You can use bleach but it needs to be rinsed out really well and then preferably dried in the sun. Make sure no bleach smell remains. Do not use any type of soap. White vinegar also works well.

alanmin4304
The water stains are normally calcium carbonate residue from the water and the vinegar (acetic acid) will disolve it. I often use salt paste then rinse it well.
