M@.
you mentioned you were going to try and raise them a while ago, that still the plan? my guys are up to their 4th spawn already. Have had one lot hatch (and one eaten) but didnt see any wrigglers at any point
Stella
Lucky!! Mine always spawned at night or in awkward places I couldn't see into.
F15hguy
yeah was lucky, i wasn't even supposed to go in there then, just happened to pop in for a check and water change ( and a few extra worms) and had an awesome surprise. might go check on the progress soon, unfortunately being in the middle of a house move I only have one tank full of leopard fish available to put them in, i might siphon out a few wrigglers (if I see them) and see what happens. have lots of good green water in the cattletrough next to my temporary fishroom, so see what happens. i'll leave the rest to have a go in the big tank. i'm gonna go check them out in a minute (if the class room is empty) and will give you an update. F15hguy
all good still, male still guarding well and fanning a bit. fingers crossed. oh and btw the trigger for spawning I believe is dumping the results of a river monitoring survey into the tank the day before. (about 100+ mayfly, caddis and stonefly larvae)
blueether
One of the commons spawned the other day right after a full tank teardown and rescape (mostly to remove most of the gravel substrate). The tank was still only at 14 deg, lifted the temp to 15 yesterday.
F15hguy
have no idea about temperature,no noticeable weather events at the time. the girl was ready to go though, bright orange fat belly for a week beforehand
blueether
Three of the other big males are guarding nests, one common and two Cran's I think. Not sure if they have eggs in them yet but the females have been in and out today but haven't turned that light cream/pink yet.
F15hguy
im assuming 2-3 weeks for hatching time???, im getting impatient
blueether
im assuming 2-3 weeks for hatching time???, im getting impatient that would be about it I would think, temp dependent. I think the first lot (Cran's bully) last year hatched in I think it was about 28 days at 17 deg. The others I think were down towards 21 days at 18 or 19 deg.
