Hi there,

My name is John and it is time to introduce myself been a member of this forum sins January 2013.

120 ltr aquarium got it of my daughter in Christchurch who gave up when all the fish died after the earthquake.

Had a lot of trouble with the plants they all went black and died. Lots of water changes put phosphate lowering stuff in the filter got some new plants and a baking soda and citric acid co2 system and it all looks good now no black stuff anymore just green algae.

My latest phosphate reading came out 0. PH was 8.6 so put peat in the filter and hope it will bring it slowly down a bid without harming the fish. Wait with putting in more fish till I got the water the way I want it. At the moment 1 pearl goerami, 5 tiger barbs, 1 Siamese algae eater, 4 neon tetra's, 1 harlequin rasbora (2 have died).

I started of with pH 7.4 but then had the problem with black stuff covering all the plants and they all wilted away. Did a whole week of daily water changes see if I could rectify the plant problem and that probably put up the pH. It is stable now at 8.6 but like to get it down to 7.4 again. Put peat in to the filter and hope it works don't want to use pH down witch might make it unstable.

Stopped water changes for now phosphate, ammonia, nitrite all gave 0 readings on last test. The Amazon Sword has survived dipped it in a 1:20 chlorine mix for a minute and all the black stuff came of it is in for 3 weeks now and looks healthy again.
