Fatman Posted October 6, 2002 Report Share Posted October 6, 2002 My LFS are returning all ViaAqua heaters due to the plastic leeching chemicals and poisning new tanks,( suspected ) they say there have been a couple of problems with fish in new tanks being affected with the new heaters, I cannot conferm that this is a recall by the importer. I personaly have 4 of these heaters and I have had no problems, mind you i always soak anything i intend to put into my tanks in a bucket of water for a week or so.I have purchased 4 more of these heaters ( at a good price ) and i intend to use them after a good soaking. Am I right in assuming that the only plastic is basically a piece near the top like most? Hmmm...Wouldn't think that would leach a significant amount into the water, especially since I wouldn't think it would get hot. Could just be that there are chemicals still on the heaters from the manufacturing process, like mold release chemicals. A good soak and scrubbing should get rid of that.
