Loopy
I feel so special! our severums are busy laying eggs right in front of us. 1 problem we might have is our large red spotted plec might eat them. We would move him but don't want to upset mummy and daddy fish. Has anyone got any ideas as to how to distract a plec long enough to let the babies hatch?? HummingBird
I have a red spot plec in with my convicts and they laid eggs & defended them perfectly well. Are severums good parent-wise? If they're anything like convicts they should be fine.
Alan
Put a length of PVC piping that the pl*co can fit into as a cave When it does, a net over each end and Pl*co is removed with the least fuss. Watch the parents-to-be, they may attack you and they can nip. Goodluck. Don't feed the babies till they are up in the water column and swimming in a school with M&D watching over them. Okay?? Loopy
Thanks guys. This is the third lot of eggs. The first lot came about a week fter we got the Severum. All fry were removed to a different tank and are doing fine. The second spawning was unsuccessful as the eggs vanished too early. Fingers crossed we can spot these after they upgrade from wrigglers to swimmers and remove them.
Alan
Why not enjoy the parent-caring process and leave them all together. The babies will grow nearly twice as fast. If the don't get eaten of course, but then ya can try again. Alan
Lucid
Awesomw loopy, best of luck. I agree with alan, leave them with the parents as I currently have angels and kribs looking after the young and it is real cool to watch. By the way Alan whats with the * in pleco B
FishBait
Well Done and good luck. I have had a better success rate by leaving a small night light on. It gives the adults a better chance to defend the brood, in the pitch dark they can have trouble seeing any threat that sneaks in under the cover of darkness. a kids bedroom nightlight is great. Alan
Not that I'm superstitious or anything. But I picked that up on other forums where apparently it is risking the death of your PL*CO if you use the "E". Why tempt fate. Alan
