Borneo sucker fish death

Ive been away for 4 days and come back to finding my borneo sucker fish (approx 3cm in length) stiff and dull in colour on the bottom of the tank. I got the borneo with the 2 "butterfly suckers" and 1 blackmoar on wednesday.

Normal feeding continued with yesterday being a food free day.

I know some of you mentioned these were more tropical type fish where as i bought for my fresh water set up after being told it would be ok.

Is this something that was always going to happen? Or do is there something wrong with my tank water?

The rest of the fish are fine including the 2 other suckers and blackmoar i got from the same supplier.

Cheers

Have you tested the water? It would help if we knew the ammonia and nitrites were 0 and the nitrates were low. Water quality is always the first thing to check (along with temperature). Some fish are more sensitive to water quality than others so that is why one can die while others are seemingly happy.

hey

I only have those badge testers at the moment (proper test kit is on the to do list)

I cant speak for the last few days but temps have been 17-23 deg and Ph high 7s.

replies in my other post recommend high flow current for the suckers so i might have to invest in a new set up for these.

I have telescopic eyed goldfish and blackmoar and i think a comet in with them

Yeah, im going to keep a close eye on the pair of "butterfly" ones and see how they go.

I just got abit of a scare before as one of them was on the side of the filter inlet (i have had 2 fish stuck up against this and die before) but on investigating this, he was very much alive and is now hiding behind a rock.

They are very cool to look at and ive been thinking maybe making a fake waterfall/river set up (two tanks with a ramp type joining piece. Although I would have to run a water pump to make sure that the bottom tank didnt overflow and to cycle the water so im not sure if this is even possible. Maybe i would be best to just have a separate tank with high flow filter/pump just for the suckers.

Sorry to hear that your loach died. I lost three when the heater on my tank got unplugged over winter and the temp got down to around 12 c.

Here is a thread of the tank I had setup for them: http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=59465

very cool. My pair of loaches are very playful and spend alot of time around the bubble stone.

I wont get anymore until i have a better prepared tank, but they are awesome to look at when playing.

Isn't Borneo Sucker and Butterfly Loach the same thing?

Anyway, I had some in my tropical tank with good flow but lost the lot (got too hot for them I think). So bought some cold water ones and put them in with the goldies and these ones are better - a lot more active.

I have a bubble wall along the back wall and internal filter that stirs the surface of the water around. I have a large piece of slate leaning over the bubble wall - they seem to like this set up

They don't hang around constantly where the water flow is though - they're happy to move around all over the tank.
