F15hguy
have been thinking about making a high current coldwater tank and was wondering what sort of plants would be appropriate. the end plan was for a high current down each side with a slower water area at each end for NZ natives. and also while we are on this topic, what about for tropical as well? im assumuing the plants will have to do well in a rocky substrate as sand will get blown away
Sophia
In a fast flowing stream I've seen oxygen weed, aponogeton (variety I'm unsure of), a native moss of some sort. Not much help I'm afraid. :dunno:

Sophia
it wasn't that one, it had long stems with small spear leaves off it all the way up. Each little leaf was about 2 or 3 cm long but the stem was 30cm + . I think I saw it in a native pond plant book at one stage but have forgotten the name. Squirt
Would it be possible to get the plants established first, then increase flow?
F15hguy
still in planning stage, but yeah that was the idea, but im unsure if some of these need good flow to grow. is Potomogeton crispus a noxious weed? its clogging the drains every where round here but it does look awesome. alanmin4304
Not easy to grow in an aquarium in my experience.
Sophia
found them in my old native/bugs tank log - I believe Potomogeton crispus - we weren't far off Mr Rabbit
alanmin4304
It might be the heat in a tropical aquarium that they don't like.
