David R
some are aulo x aulo and some aulo x mbuna Complete african noob here, kinda confused, is this a hybrid? Regardless, it looks cool. And if it is, why is no one making a big song and dance about it like the other hybrid thread?
zuri08
haha yea its a hybrid bred to look just like this.i geuss the reason is the same as say a fh etc
rcon021
I thought the aulonocara ( dragon bloods ) are crossed with the mbuna and the line bred for the selective traits of the obs, eg the OB Fire etc. So not necessarily aulonocara x mbuna. Well that's my understanding.
ryanjury
Lots of theories about how OB peacocks are developed, the general theory is that it is a peacock crossed with a OB type mbuna (there are no OB peacocks in the lake that I am aware of) and then line bred over many generations to get the peacock shape back. And yes they are hybrids, but an "accepted" one (if you can go that far) and no doubting what it is or mistaking it for a pure species a few generations down the track. A.PROPHECY
was just watching this video if you jump to 1.51 you will see a fish that looks mbuna x aloncara , so this must happen in the wild. i know there line breed now but maybe they aren't originally 'man made'
Tropheus
+1 what Ryan said. Aul x Mbuna. The trick is when you breed them and grow them out its best to pick out the Aul shape and continue breeding them. Either sell the Mbuna profile or cull them. Good looking male anyway :nfs:
