emaytiti
Hi guys, planning on brumating the reptile room this year. Are they all the same for brumation? Start dropping there temp every couple of days? What months are the best?
alanmin4304
When the ambient drops a bit more. I have usually gone down to 12-15 degrees C which would not be easy at the moment. They generally start slowing up and showing brumating signs when they are ready. At the moment I would concentrate on getting them into prime condition. The leopards shouldn't be brumated if they are gravid right?
alanmin4304
Mine have finished laying and I am trying to condition them up then will brumate them when cooler. I didn't brumate mine the first year. Wait till the egg laying has finished and they have some condition back.
emaytiti
Thinking of brumating them now...should I just start lowering their temperature a couple degrees each week? The leopards seem to be sleeping alot more than usual and the bluey has gone into hiding, beardies are almost their.
alanmin4304
When it cools down (like now--actually freezing) and they are showing signs of slowing up I don't feed them for 2-3 days then lower the temperature to to about 14 deg and decrease the lights. Started this about a week ago with some leps but still have a beardie that I think wants to lay again so will wait for them.
Insect Direct
reducing daylight hours -pref over a few weeks- helps set the mood too.
emaytiti
Starting to decrease food intake for the reptiles and lowering temperatures. Just want to make sure they are in the right condition: What should the recommend weight of the above reptiles be for brumation?
alanmin4304
If you are lowering the temperature then stop feeding all together as the temperature is required for them to digest food and it will just rot in their guts. Only brumate mature adults.
emaytiti
I had stopped feeding before decreasing temps. They are 2yr+ just wanting to make sure they are in the right condition .

reptilenutt
Tortoises woke up 2 day ago and then decide that it was still too cold and went back to sleep .. The beards did the same and the coastal are feeding well and very lively .. The Leos did not do down and I have had the first one hatch today with more to go .. All the birds are sitting on eggs or have babies ..so hope the season will be better than last year .. Will just have to wait and see .... emaytiti
Damn that sucks. Would it be possible to try? What temps would it need to be to be cold enough?
livingart
just let your reps do what they want naturally now don't try to force things
alanmin4304
They will not brumate unless the temperature is low enough. They do not have to brumate. Best to not half do it I would think.
