ATF + dorado + armartus = winning at life.

Haha, that tank is absolutely awesome! could be a bit bigger,

but as i have recently found out, too much space can actually work against a aggressive comm tank!

density of stock can help moer towards getting rid of agro.

:D sadly not in NZ though!

Here's a can of worms for ya all..NOT TRUE.

I as most know was spending heaps on Amazon Fish from Peru and N Z as well as members of this site were not prepared to pay a relistic price for them so i stopped importing...

I see a lot like this about nz dont have decent fish and frankly..Well i think i will no go there...

Also i spend hundreds for good dollars doing banner ads here and never saw much from members in actual sales..

This im hoping will get people to realise its not worth while to import special fish into N Z unless this so called hobby wakes up...

Auctally...Those fish in vidoe's can grow to huge sizes and your tanks cannot hold them properly....

Most need tanks at least several meters and holding thousands of liters...

i agree

i hear some local stores also lobbying to import rare items and when it comes in, no one buys and they are stuck with expensive rare fish for ages.

i agree

that is a problem, also people do not anticipate the potential max size of the fish.

so i agree with you.

people dont bother becuse they wont sell enough of it

i for one is willign to pay a price for fish i like!

It's a good ol' Catch-22. People don't buy because it's not easily available and importers don't make it available because it's not worth their while.

To be honest, I don't see the NZ market ever growing huge because of several reasons:

1. The initial cost of making certain fish easily available; the rarest fish will only belong to those who can import privately.

2. Most hobbyists here actually care about their fish instead of in Asia where the fish are so cheap/ easily replaced that they generally don't worry too much about filtration/ tank space. (I lived in Singapore for the first 14 years of my life so I've seen it first-hand)

3. As a result of the above, most NZ hobbyists can't afford the space/ cash to build/ maintain a mega tank to keep exotic specimens.

4. NZ importers have good reason to be wary about shelling out big bucks to import new fish because once they are brought in, home-breeders would narrow the profit margin in no time at all. Case in point: freshwater stingrays would be uber-cool, but they breed so easily that it's probably not worth an importers' while to bring them in unless they controlled the gender.
