#!CrunchBang
looks like a val, twisted val is probably what you're after. A few plants go a long way, mine grows like mad, puts out a new plant every couple days.

Adrienne
my twisted val is a lot more twisted than the pic but its at about 70cm. Heres the link to the plant on this forum that Joe has suggested http://www.fnzas.org.nz/?p=856 This is the link to the plant data base which has some quality photos thanks to the Plant Sub Committee http://www.fnzas.org.nz/?page_id=
alanmin4304
The picture is either valisneria (not twisted) or sagittaria. There are two types of twisted vallisneria in NZ and they do go under different names. We used to call them V. contortionist (taller, narrower leaf and more twisted), and torta or tortifolia(wider shorter leaf and not as twisted). Vallisneria spiralis actually has straight leaves and the name refers to the flower stem. Sagittaria has seperate male and female flowers on a single stem and Vallisneria has usually 3 flowers branching off one stem and they are bisexual. The cell structure is more pronounced in Sag. Joe
I bought some at Organism once. It died when I transfered it to a pot (it was just a plastic mesh pot with gravel in it). It will do best under high lighting with CO2 and a nutrient-rich subtrate.
