Sophia
I have a Huawei U3100/Telecom U3100N and I want to be able to look up stuff online ie pics or ringtones on Zedge and then copy them to the phone, and to be able to transfer photos from the phone to the PC. When I connect the phone to the PC using the usb cable I get a pop up software tool that offers file transfer and to connect the pc to the phone as if it's a modem. If I click File Transfer nothing happens. If I go to My Computer and find the phone it's there as a removable storage, but if I right click there aren't any folders that look like something I could drop something into, they are just the system folders of the phone. I did try to copy something there anyway but it rejected it as the file was too large. The instruction manual for the phone is useless and I got no reply from the support website for another question so I won't bother them with this. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? :an!gry
Squirt
Does the phone have Bluetooth? It's easy to transfer stuff via bluetooth. But when you connect the phone to the computer via USB, can you go to my computer and does it show the phone there? If so just look through the folders and find the photos normally labeled something like J000001 or something like that. Sorry not sure how else to do it. Sophia
I just described that the phone does appear in the drives when I connect it... the phone has bluetooth, however I know nothing about bluetooth.
Squirt
Okay, sorry I should've read it twice. Bluetooth is great. Turn the Bluetooth on your phone, and turn it on your PC (providing your PC has Bluetooth) then scan on your computer for your phone. Then click pair. The default password/pass code is 1234. Once paired you should be able to access your phone from there. You can even send the pictures from your phone to the computer if that makes it easier. Just click on options or a similiar action and click send>via Bluetooth. The photos are normally hidden in folders that may look like system folders. I have no clue which one but you may want to try searching the phone (on the computer when connected via USB) for picture suffixes such as .jpg and .png. Sophia
it's ok, your suggestion prompted me to find out about bluetooth instead of being an ignoramus and using the manual I have managed to pair up the 2 cellphones in the house and send a photo from one to the other. I don't think the PC has bluetooth but I will keep hunting for it. Still think I should be able to put things in and out of it as a file folder though
Squirt
I'm not sure where the Bluetooth is on PC, I'll google it and get back to you. Yeah normally there is a complete folder of photos, it's normally just coded I think mine was called DSCM or something. And if your PC doesn't have Bluetooth you can getaway device called a Bluetooth dongle. It slots into the USB port of the computer. Here's a video of how to find bluetooth on a PC, not sure what OS you are running. Maybe you could clarify? 95, 2000, vista, XP, 7?

Squirt
Okay, new possible solution? Maybe go on the Internet on your phone and load it up to photobucket? Then go onto your computer and download it from photobucket. You may not be able to do this but it's possible, due to the memory may be protected? Im not sure but it's worth a shot. Next option: take a picture of the picture on your phone with a camera and then load it not the computer
Sophia
cool, that's what I did with the cellphones. So if the combined nerd brains of the world and my muffin brain can't figure out how to share files through the usb cable I have to buy something like these http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/SearchResults.aspx?searchType=all&searchString=bluetooth+adapter&type=Search&generalSearch_keypresses=9&generalSearch_suggested=17 plug in to the PC, tell the PC to use it/discover and then the mobile can find it? All I have to do now is work out if Telecom will charge me for sending files that way. I bet they will  Okay, new possible solution? You may not be able to do this but it's possible, due to the memory may be protected? Im not sure but it's worth a shot. I am trying to avoid using the mobile to connect to the internet or I will be charged for data. Since I already pay for broadband I can download stuff on the PC and then zap them over. Squirt
Okay, I can see why you don't want to use te Internet, it's expensive! Like 49c a megabyte and a photo is 3mb normally. Yep most Bluetooth dongles should work with your computer. Just make sure it works with windows 7.

Sheepsnana
Depending on the software on the phone, this can either be a nice easy setup or an absolute nightmare. Without handling the phone, and fiddling through the settings, it is rather hard to explain how to get a USB setup to work. Main option: USB: Check the settings on the phone. Under tools, or options, or settings, there is generally a connectivity option, which then has USB options, or PC options. Under these settings, should be an option for Storage Device vs Default vs Ask each time. Storage Device should allow you to access your phone like a USB flash drive. Important things to note: The size of your phone's memory! If it says file size too large, you may have exceeded the space on the device. You may need to move it to an attachable memory card, if this is available. Bluetooth is great, and free, but USB is the faster method of transferring files (its free too). Bluetooth option: Also good, but slower than USB. Only requires you to be in the same area as the other device, rather than connected by cable. Downsides: Some phones block the sending of any files other than contacts. Also can be rather slow. Wifi: I havn't looked into whether or not your phone has wifi or not, but this connects your phone to your home network, giving you access to all devices on the network and access to your home internet. This can save you hundreds of dollars, as Home internet is MUCH CHEAPER than mobile internet. It also means that your phone will be connected wirelessly, and you can copy files to and from your phone by using your PC. (My network places -> cellphone) Last option, and my personal favourite: Remove the external memory, and plug it straight into your PC. This requires your phone to have external memory and for your PC to have a multimedia card reader, but is definitely the easiest and fastest way of transferring files. Remove the card, insert it into the PC, transfer the files, click safely remove hardware (important! this prevents massive data losses!!), and then plug it back into your phone. Hope this helps, any other questions, or if I need to clarify anything, please let me know.
Wok
do as blueether said, It should be running android on your phone, not a problem to connect If you want, I can pop by and set it up for you, should be passing by around midday
Sophia
It isn't an android or any sort of iphone, is just a 'phone' phone. Under Connectivity there is Network access point (options are Telecom Default/Telecom Content/TelecomMMS/Telecom Data) and Streaming Settings (options are Default access point/Streaming gateway/QoS (quality of stuffingaround)) I can't find anything in any menu that looks like usb or pc options and certainly nothing about storage device. I don't think we have wireless anything at home other than the bluetooth on the phones. Thanks for the offer Wok, but I will probably be going out shortly and miss you. Probably I will take it to a Telecom shop and they will either do that thing that happens when you ask for help with PC stuff - they press 1 button and it works like magic, or they will tell me it doesn't do it or it has to be done by bluetooth. blueether
When the "Removable Disk" shows up in windows what are the folder names?
Sophia
It shows like a disk in the F drive so maybe I'm wrong about it being seen as a removable disk. Anyway the files are Driver: folders within are res>Vista>Vista-AMD64>Win7>Win7-AMD64. I've opened all of these and there is nothing resembling the sort of files we are looking for. HUAWEI_DIALUP: within is the application to run dial up res: inside that are icons and the bits that make up the images.
mcrudd
My son has one of the telecom phones, don't ask me which one, its one that was $100 I refuse to pay more for a 12 year old insisting everyone in his class has a phone. His came with a disk to run software so I could load mp3's for him and download his photos. But his disk was faulty so I contacted telecom and they helped me over the phone by going into their website to get the right software, so perhaps give 123 a ring and see if they can help you out
blueether
Some phones dont present the storage as a disk to the OS, you have to load a special driver for the OS to takl to the phone, probably stored in one of the Vista>Vista-AMD64>Win7>Win7-AMD64 folders? It's far too hard for me to have a friendly discussion with them. All communication with Telecom lately is through the online chat or by email, which seems to get answered by someone in this country. Not necessarily a better outcome but a less frustrating experience on the whole. If I can't sort this one I'd rather go into a Telecom shop and present my case to a surly teenager aka shop assistant and see how far I get instead. Sophia
One more question - I was in Dick Smith today and they had a bluetooth dongle for the PC that was $55. Why was it that price when you can get them on Trademe and likely other places for $5 and under? What is it that I'm actually buying and why the great difference in price?
Squirt
Hi sophia I'm not sure, last time I went into Dick Smith they were about $30. The more expensive ones may be of better quality, more compatible with more devices, might transfer data quicker? How did you get on with transferring the photos? On a side note, does the phone have a removable SD card? Because some computers have a SD card slot which maybe you could then transfer photos off? A Bluetooth dongle is essentially giving the computer the ability to use Bluetooth
