Squirt
Hi I have a problem with my iPhone 4 and the headphone jack has stopped working and when listening to music it sounds really distorted. I tried using it with my iPad, it worked fine. And with another pair of headphones, a no go on the iPhone and a go on the iPad. So I called apple today (I have an extended warranty bought in October '10) and explained my problem and they said they can send me a new phone. They needed a credit card though for some holding or something. So I asked how much this was, I had my debit card on me and maybe thought I could put it on there. $880. Yeah a bit more than what's have on my account. So to anyone that has had their iPhone, iPod, iPad ect replaced and had to pay this fee, does it get returned? I guess I should've asked more questions about it, because that's a crap load of cash to pay. Any experiences out there? Thanks
blueether
Apple, just works... meh It is a bit steep to ask for a hold for a RMA
Squirt
Yeah, I was thinking, what if something goes wrong and I don't get that $800 back... Yeah I've had apple for a few years now, a few technical glitches sometimes but normally easily fixed. But this is angering me. I listen to music almost everyday. It's like going without coffee or alcohol each day
Sheepsnana
Consumer guarantee's act should cover you. this is why you bought a extended warranty. they should not be able to charge you anything to replace it, except MAYBE freight. Take it to where you bought it from, as they should be the ones in charge of contacting apple on your behalf. I have been down this road before (not with an apple. ) They tried charging me an inspection fee, but I just said "here's the receipt, it's still under warranty. Until you can tell me that it's water damage, it's your problem" Got it fixed at no cost.
Squirt
Hi I don't think they're charging me a fee, just a $880 holding fee. I got it off the online website, so no shop to go to. I might try YooBee in town, probably my best bet in getting it replaced. So contacting apple is contacting where I bought it . ryanjury
I wonder if the holding fee is because they are going to send you a new phone but won't know if yours is covered by warrantee until it shows up and they have assessed it.. That is my thought, but it is still rude to have a hold on a CC for a RMA. Have done a few RMAs on harddisks, normally they send the new one then you have 30 days to send in the old one. Squirt
Mmm yeah, the thing with apple is that I have to send my iPhone in first before they send me mine, so I don't know why I need to pay $880.
supasi
Apple, Thats the problem. I am currently sorting out customer faulty returns here at work, what a headache. I personally wont touch the stuff because of the hassles I have dealing with their NZ Agents and repairers. JMO
phoenix44
A debit hold only lasts for 5 working days and then it pops off. But they can charge you upto the whole amount whilst the funds are held against your credit limit.
Squirt
Hi guys, So I can put it on my visa debit? And if the bank decides to charge me the fee, I have to pay it? Ie I don't get it back? I've never really had problems with apple. Yeah a few bugs here and there, and the odd faulty phone, no biggy. Some people are terrible with their smartphones, no cases, no screen protector ect. I hate it when there is even a slight blemish on the actual device, drives me bonkers :an!gry Thanks
phoenix44
DOn't think it will work with a debit card, and it's not upto the bank to charge it. It's upto the company charging you - Apple in this case.
si_sphinx
Ive had My IPhone and IPod replaced, IPod twice, and all I did was get a damage report done from a technician (In this case Harvey Norman) and I scanned and emailed the report to apple, they then contacted the technician to confirm the report and I got a new Phone. Was quite easy. I just threw the old one out.
Squirt
Okay, I'm going to do that then. Much easier than this holding stuff. So Si Sphinx How did you go about getting the replacement? Did you fill out the online form, call them up ect. And did you have to pay this holding fee? Thanks
si_sphinx
I just called them up, I didn't have to pay anything.
