aquariumbeginner32
For quite a while now, my filter has only been trickling water out instead of flowing. I've cleaned the tubes and there is no issue with water getting into the filter from the tubes as it's FULL but the water just trickles out and it's not leaking from anywhere else. :dunno:
Matto
what kind of filter? canister ,hang on back? ,have you checked the seals and the impeller?
Squirt
+1 on checking the seals if it's a canister
aquariumbeginner32
It's a hang on the back one that takes cartridges. It's a Marina S20 slim.

Zayne
if you take the cartridges out does it go faster?
aquariumbeginner32
I haven't tried... need to do a vacuum and water change tomorrow so I will try that then. Will update later. Thanks
aquariumbeginner32
if you take the cartridges out does it go faster? Ok I cleaned the tank today and cleaned the cartridges and replaced one of them. It's flowing better now so I'm thinking it's the cartridges... will have to go get some more this weekend. Obviously I can't replace all of them at once... will do one every 2 weeks. Sound ok? It's flowing at about 3/4 capacity now.
Zayne
sounds like they are clogged and need to be replaced
blueether
I believe that many of the hang on filters can be modified to take bio noodles and a cut to size bit of filterwool ( or keep the fine cartridge?). this might be cheaper in the long run? supasi
Yes I agree. I never use those silly cartridges they come with. Bio noodles and filter wool is what I use on mine.
aquariumbeginner32
Yes I need to switch to the bio noodles etc... it's just getting my husband to buy the stuff .... he says I've already spent too much on the fish. But yes, it would probably be cheaper in the long run. How much do you spend on maintaining the filter eg replacing bio noodles etc? IF you have to replace them eventually.... si_sphinx
It will take a long time to have to replace bio noodles. Just the wool should need changed
the-obstacle
I'd be surprised if you ever need to replace bio noodles. I've always replaced the cartridges with filter wool and noodles. I've found the noodles host more bacteria than the cartridges ever do and the carbon cartridge is a waste of time.
aquariumbeginner32
Thanks. Will try to get hubby to get the bio noodles etc tomorrow... will tell him it will save money in the long run....
