supasi
Further from my recent post about my wireless modem dropping the wireless signal, I sent the modem back as it was only a month old. Turns out it was faulty and they sent me a new modem. But a different model. SMC brand that I have never heard of but the supplier assured it was a decent one. OK so I connect up as usual and then connected the RJ-45 cable to PC and then typed the ip address into browser. All I get is a 404 error. What the hell is wrong now?? Is this modem a dud? Can someone more savy with these things help me please
supasi
This is all I get. Is there a step I am missing ???? I am pulling my hair out. (In case anyone is wondering, I am connected to the net at the moment with my old non wireless modem)
#!CrunchBang
it'll say the ip on the bottom, netgear is 192.168.0.1 and linksys is 192.168.1.1 The one you have is 192.168.2.1? Edit: 192.168.2.1 is the correct one...

blueether
Make sure that windows has forgotten it's o;ld address and isnot on a static IP. That is the interface will need restarting the easist way is to reboot windows with the new modem connected ipconfig /allshould show an ethXX address of something like 192.168.2.xx with a netmask of 255.255.255.0 (/24) if the modem address is 192.168.2.
