David R
Not banned, just not on the allowable imports list. Probably not likely to given the hysteria over them establishing in the US and subsequently being banned...
Fruju
No chance of any channa ever coming in I think. pity, they are kickass. Still prefer bichirs though :smln:

waterlogged
And considering that pretti much all of ournative fish are endangered it would be an extremne decieely stupid idea for someone to import them just incase someone decided to "set it free"
David R
I think you'll find florida has a slightly different climate to NZ! There might be some temperate species that could survive in northern parts though, I'm not too sure. But I think its mainly the tropical species found in the hobby. waterlogged
I think It is just so happens that florida is the first place to have it happen. They are a very adaptible fish and because of the ferocity, especially when spawning they reproduce quite well
henward
tey have beenfound in colder areas too, colder than NZ! they are not tropical fish from what i gather thats why they can live in such wide variety of habitats.

waterlogged
"The Northern snakehead (Channa argus) is a type of snakehead fish native to China, Russia, North Korea and South Korea." insert from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_snakehead/color:2xsaibl1 Match and point
David R
Well thats one species, there are many others though that are limited to tropical regions and could be imported without posing any more risk than the other large tropical predators allowed in now. waterlogged
Yea I see your point, though I'm sure someone would import that particular snake head as another species into the country somehow and then it is just a matter of time.....
