ryanjury
Don't have any idea myself but have you tried using the search engine? http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/search.php?keywords=breeding+locusts&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search There have been tons of threads on locust breeding in the past.. alanmin4304
I use 2/3 vermiculite and 1/3 peat and keep it moist every day.
MalcolmX
i use straight beach sand, its very fine. i have heard of some using plain soil or dirt, which would hold the moisture well i would think. make sure you keep it moist but not soaking untill they lay, then just dont let it dry out completly over the 11 to 15 day incubation. jc254
you need to use really fine substrate, I have read that it can break the females egg laying tube if its to course of thick.
alanmin4304
You may be thinking of crickets. I have seen someone who was breeding locusts in poly boxes and they were poking their abdoman right through the boxes---looked like it had been hit by a shotgun

henward
i use yates peat, just by itself, slightly compacted and i run pvc pipe to the bottom and fillt hat with water, so water comes from under the peat not above it. but both can work. i just dont like my cage getting too moist locust are easy to breed
