wonderfulguppy
Hi, I have 15 goldfish in my tank. All of them are eating and healthy except one. I do not know what is wrong but it does not seem to be eating. Is there anything I can do? Also I have realised that its dorsal fin is not spread out like normal and its mouth seems to have some black colouration that was never there before. Thank you for reading my post. Caryl
15 goldfish is a lot to have in a tank, unless it is at least 8ft+. What size are they? What size is the tank? How long have they been in there? How long since the goldfish stopped eating? Is it smaller than the other fish? Is it not eating, or are the others preventing it from getting food? Was it introduced at the same time as the other fish or is it a new addition? If its fins are clamped that is a sign of stress or illness. I would separate the affected fish in case it has something contagious.
wonderfulguppy
Hi, the tank is at least 360L. The fish is actually one of the larger ones in there and it has not eaten for probably 3 days now. I also noticed that the edge of its tail has somehow turned a bit black in colour (it is an orange normal goldfish btw). Thank you.
wonderfulguppy
sory, 4 got to mention. The fish does not look interested in the food and just swims pass it most of the time. However, yesterday I saw the fish spitting its food after taking the food into its mouth.
Ira
I'd give it another week or two before worrying. You've still got a month or two before it starves to death.
Caryl
Injuries to fin edges often turn black as they heal. Also, goldfish do change colour, seemingly randomly. They also spit out their food a lot. The bit that most concerns me is the clamped fins and we need to find the reason for the stress that is causing it to do this. Black can also indicate a chemical burn. Check your water quality. I know it is only one fish and the rest seem fine but perhaps it is more sensitive, or already was a little ill, so reacted before the others.
