FraserNZ
just your average 25W heater. used to have a 50W but it decided the thermostate wasn,t needed lol. only thing i'm finding a problem is cleaning lol gets dirty to fast Yeah I went with the Marina as I wanted something thing tiny and minimal looking. It's not doing such a good job... It's over 20c in my house and its only just maintaining the tank temp at 25, over night it dips down towards 24. I don't think I'm going to be able to run it over winter... Do you know what type of lights are direct plug in replacements to the standard ones? I wouldn't mind getting ones a little more natural looking.
waterlogged
um i just looked up leds that were GU-4 sheilded type 10W 12V. ordered some off ebay last week so will seee how they go and will let you know. but as some have said earlier on in this thread they may light up just as little of the tank. will be better with white thight though. and eventually if that works i'm thinking of getting a few blue LEDs for night time viewing. i had a n elite which has never let me down untill last week. got a sera 25W in there now. seen lots on line with the fluval 25W ones and they look good next to the out take but they are pricey
FraserNZ
Cool, I think led is the way to go. Are you talking about the compact Fluval 25W heaters? If so, thats the one I have, they also rebrand them under the name Marina. They are very small, and do not heat as well as normal 25W heaters. Fine for the summer months, but I can't see them handling the winter months...
waterlogged
the ones that seem to be incased in plastic? i think they have diff heatinh volume values or something. i was thinking last night that if i managed to make a small sump in the back i could hide the heater all together. FraserNZ
Yep, thats the one. The Marina C25 has the same power output. It's the same heater just re-packaged. A sump... now we are talking, where were you planning to put the sump? You would need to drill holes in the tank right?
waterlogged
i probably won't do irt i always have ideas od tinkering and stoff with tanks. no sorry i use the word sump to liberaly. more like a mini external though if i could get a tidy enough over flow box that would fit in the top that could work and just have a similar flow back into the tank like the hnag on filter. then i could hide the overflow up the top. though the water does evaporate rather fast in mine so would need to keep topping it up. maybe if i just extend the hang on down so i can fit a heater in there. ok now i'm not going to be able to study all day and going to be thinking about all this modifying lol
FraserNZ
Now you sound like you are getting a little too technical haha. The Aqua Clear that came with mine is not that quite, so if it doesn't settle down over the next couple of weeks I might just put one of those mini marina internal filters in there as its in my bedroom. waterlogged
yea mines 2 m from my head at night. i found taking the top reduces it some what and doesn't splash much as i have it on the lowest setting. i sound technical but really i just wing it and hope it works out. though should bropably do it properly for an expensive tank lol

It rattled WAY too much for my liking! Mines about two meters away from my head when I sleep as well. From my experience with with Aquaclears, they do settle down after about a week of running, so fingers crossed I guess.

FraserNZ
How did he just go missing? A bit like my Sliverfox that went missing in the tank in my garage later to be found on the floor, all dried out like a Sardine :tears:

FraserNZ
is it behind the filter, or under it? I could see something jumping down there.
waterlogged
no i took it all apart and everything. i think he may have been in one of the shells but none of them smelt after taking them out and i,ve had then in water for a while to see if it fauls up and there is nothing in them either
FraserNZ
Probably died in one of the shells mate. I had a sick tetra in a QT once, it didn't make it... I was lazy and didn't clean the tank out until afew days later. By that stage, it had completely broken down into nothing apart from a small piece of tail! Ira
ok that probably happened or my apple snail would have cleaned it up cuz i waited a few days to see if he would reappear I don't see you mentioning an apple snail before. Kind of like asking people to figure out where your cookies went and not mentioning you left them on the coffee table where your dog could get them...
